Depending on which part of the country you're in I'd say $600 - 700.
I think if it were in blue a tad higher.
Just my $0.02!

Does the serial number start with S or N? Grips?
Early S guns are at a premium and could have Coke grips.

Hello Tug700
The Model 57 is a breed of it's own in the buyer public's eye. The Main reason for this was that Remington down Played the load when they introduced it in 1964 as it was campaigned as the "Perfect Police Round". I feel the reason it was a much Milder load than that of it's close cousin being the Remington .44 Magnum was to keep the general public Hype at a Lower level as most that shun heavy Police load's would scream and holler to see a round intended for bad guy's that got as much press as the massive .44 Magnum saw.

Oddly, in the past Five years there has been an increase in collector value on these model 57's as there are Far less of them out there compared to the more popular Model 29's. Nickel model 57's command a higher price than that of the blued ones as they made Far less of them and the shorter 4" Barrel examples is the one everyone seems to want, but they are scarce out there in 4" Length Nickel variety. In 1976 to promote sales of the model 57's S&W started shipping them in Factory presentation cases and made all of the gun's offered that year and forward Three T's which meant Target Hammer, Target Trigger, and Target stocks. Most of them in and after that time span left the factory with the larger style Smooth Presentation stock's as well.

That said your 4" Nickel example is a Highly Sought after collectible gun. I have seen some recently do anywhere from $900.00-$1200.00 Bracket depending on condition and what is offered with them. Putting a Presentation case, tools and a sight adjustment tool with yours would increase it's value to the upper end of the averages I have pointed out here is you all ready do not have it with your gun ? A Good flitz job to it's Factory nickel would also improve it's current market value.

The 4" Nickel example is the hardest one to find out there. I have on that was made in 1979 shown below that I have had for about Seven years now. It is not for sale nor will be as I have not seen another 4" Nickel model 57 since I got mine. If you are not hard pressed for Cash, I would give a second thought to letting that model 57 go. I made that lethal Mistake with a nice 6" Nickel example back in the mid 1980's and that one mistake cost me a 20 Plus year hunt to locate the 4" example shown... Hammerdown

Hello Bamabiker
The "N" Prefix started life in 1969 so given this thread is in the 1980- to Current made S&W's I would be willing to bet it is an "N" Prefix gun. The Coke profile stocks dissapeared sometime in 1968, so unless an owner placed them on his "N" Prefix stamped model 57 they would not have come on it...Just my .002 Cent's worth... Hammerdown

Impossible to find around here, wouldn't be surprised to see it go for $900-$1000. Hard to find any n-frames except 29/629's and they are boring!

The OP has only posted 30 times on the forum. I think Bamabiker's comment holds weight in this case. I did the same thing with my pinned M60 by posting in this very forum instead of the room next door.

Your post has fantastic info to us and the OP and I enjoyed your pix of your 4". I like the M57, and yes they are hard to find. I have Never seen a nickel in any barrel length and only 2blue'd. One in a presentation box for $750.00. 8 3/8" if I remember right.

tug700, the M57 you describe is a very desireable Smith. The 4" nickel M57 is hard to find, but I cannot say they are rare. Most that have them, just are not willing to part with them. If I had to guess at a price, I would say $750 to $850, but that is just a guess. It could bring more or less depending on who wanted the piece. Here is mine, with some Kurac stocks on it. Put me in as one who is not selling.

HAMMERDOWN: Thanks for the information. MIne looks like yours but it has the Smith Targets and has a very light mark on the recoil shield. The serial number is N671xxx. IIt does meet the TTT criteria.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I have pictures but have not been able to post them. If anyone is interested in posting my photos, I can send them to your email address. My pictures do not meet the high standard of this site but you can see the revolver in all of its beauty.

I apologize for any confusion I have caused. This revolver is Pinned and has Recessed chambers. Therefore, should have been posted in the other forum.

Hello tug700
You are in the right forum. Pinned barrels and recessed cylinders faded away after 1981-1982 time span and it was not uncommon to see some made later with a recessed cylinder yet not having a Pinned barrel as S&W used up existing supplies of parts they had on hand to assemble later gun's with. Your gun's serial number would put your gun in around 1980-1981 time span. It is a Nice looking model 57 you have there... Hammerdown
