I don't like the XS night sight on the 340 M&P. Has anybody ever changed theirs? Will any ramp sights fit? S&W customer service is giving me different conflicting answers.

It has been suggested in other posts that the RR, found on some 340PDs, the Hi-Viz, and the XS can all be swapped out as the sight channel is one standard length, but I haven't compared them.
What sort of conflicting answers is the company giving you?

Any J frame sight, that uses a 2 piece barrel should fit.
I will buy your sight off you, if you decide to change it

I called S&W and the CS rep says the 340 M&P is made for night sights only and no other sight will fit. I've been told wrong before many times, so I called again to talk to someone else and they said, I don't see why the 340 PD's Red Ramp wouldn't fit.

I then emailed S&W CS twice and got two different answers. the reponses were....

First email response-"The blades are a bit longer so cosmetically it would a bit off. But functionally should be fine."

Second email response-"The base of the front sight post is a different shape on the night sights. A gun built for the night sights will not accept the ramp or HI-Viz sights"

Its ashame the people at S&W, dont have more knowledge about their products. There must be some old timers there, that know about this stuff.
When you buy an XS front night sight, I believe it says it will fit any J frame with a 2 piece barrel.. So I would figure the standard sights should fit a gun already fitted with the night sight.

I had the same experience with S &W asking this question in reverse, I wanted them to put night sights on a 340 PD and was told we cant do that, they don't fit, etc finally got someone in the custom shop who stated that the channel milled for the rear sight was a different shape and that was their reason for not swapping sights.

I had 43C that I sent back for warranty repair, and I asked if they could put the night sight on the front, to replace the white dot sight, and the woman said , that they dont make night sights anymore??
