Found my S&W 547 9mm finally!
I finally found a 547 that is in 95% condition w/out box. RB 3" which is my preference even though they made more of these than the 4" I picked it up Tuesday. The price was right at $650 OTD.

My LGS guy who I do a lot of business saw it last Saturday at a Gunshow and bought it knowing I was looking for one... apparently the guy he bought it from didn't know what he had. So at $650 OTD I am sure my LGS guy did not lose money... I'm thinking he must have bought it for under $500.

Nice catch Mike, definitely bring it to the S&W bunch in Oct. You have a good nose for finding nice guns. Larry

The highest I have ever seen was paid this week $1,754.00 on GB. It was the nicest 4" square butt I have seen but that's crazy money.

Congratulations!
I missed my chance 13 years ago. A cop at a gun show offerred me a new in box 547 he bought from S&W at LEO pricing when they dumped them on the market.
He wanted $350, but I didn't know what it was, and didn't know I liked S&W's then. I was just a kid buying 9mm's.
I kick myself for how many times I walked by deals before I became a smith-fan.
547 $350 NIB
940 for $350
1006 $480
6" Model 14 full log in near mint condition $385
variousmodel 37 and 36 lady smiths for under $300 NIB
ALL were ignored for other autos...
I kick myself every day I see deals like you got, and think mine I turned down were better even when adjusted for inflation.

Finally Picked her up
I finally got my new to me Model 547 from the dealer today. These pics are very grainy because I was very much out of daylight...but I wanted to post pics so as to not warrant any hostile posts from those who might think I was B.S.ing
I will hopefully get some decent pics tomorrow. The 3" RB is not pinned so it dates to 1983 by the s/n. Now to get her out and fire away! I can't wait. Range report by the weekend for sure.
Mike

Very fun shooters until it gets dirty, then the fingers don't want to retract and you have to press the new rounds in if you use a speed loader. I found that just brushing the extractor whilst it's pressed rearward usually will give you several more reloading cycles before the cylinder won't always close easily. I shot a steel challenge match with my 3" a few years back and it ran fine with minimal "extra cleaning".
Those 9x19 rounds do run at high pressure, so extraction isn't always an easy push. Sometimes a bump is required to break the cases loose but, again, it's no biggie.
Oh, BTW, that "case reseating" pin works! What you don't see is the hammer being cycled by primer set back. But if you have a trigger stop, it can lead to having a cocked hammer over the just fired case. (I had this happen with a glued on silicone rubber stop. Very weird!)

Keep the chambers free of oil and spent powder. Fire it with dry chambers. Oil is OK when your done. A small diameter brush like a bottle brush will help clean out the chambers. The key to ejection is dry chambers. If, when a tough ejection presents itself, don't put a lot of strain on the little eject fingers.
Have a wood dowel with you and push each shell out one at a time.
Happy shooting, stay safe.

Range Report SW 547
SW 547 range report. We took it out for a drive today and it passed all the "keeper" tests. I had a friend who was visiting from the east coast and is a Federal Officer at a US Mint. Both of our wives came and I brought a couple of bags of handguns to shoot.
The 547 got some time with all four of us. It is a sweet shooting K frame. Accuracy was very good. 3" targets at 25' 2" groups which is good for me. My wife doesn't like revolvers..period. She said that I had to keep that one It's the only revolver she can shoot well in DA. Not like I planned to get rid of it anyway. There were no problems with the mechanics. We were shooting 115 gr Sellior & Bellot JMJ's We also shot my new Pre 42 centennial and a bunch of autoloaders. But they don't belong in this section. All in all it was a great day at the range with family and friends.

Enjoy it, these are unique and valuable revolvers that they won't be making any more of.

As noted previously, it does fine for a while. But a Steel Challenge Match will burn up 200 rounds or more, depending on how many stages are set up. And IF you have to reload (A bad thing...) it's done as fast as possible. Neatness doesn't count! So I wasn't complaining, it just just needs a little more attenion than some firearms. As a carry or defensive revolver, there ought be no drama!
If Smith were to go mad and re-introduce the 547 or a stainless equivalent i'd buy one straight away! It's a great concept, even if it was difficult to execute.

We're the 547's made for any particular agency?
Why are they so rare?

I have heard it was made for the French as they placed the order for S&W to make it , they took a shipment of the first batch of the 10,000 made but don't know how many as we see 3" and 4" models with proof marks from time to time.
Some was modded before everyone got the low down on them so there is not alot of the them LNIB left and prices showed that.
6486 round with butt and 3" barrel
3784 with a square butt and 4" barrel
We are left with alot less now then what was made.
