629 Porn
A couple weeks back at the gun show I went hunting for a 3" or 4" 629-4 specifically, I wasn't going to budge on anything else.
It's one of the biggest shows in Phoenix, at the Cardinals stadium. Went through the whole show and second to the last table after I had given up hope, I found this. Some other guy was holding it when I spotted it. He was talking to the owner about the recoil and such. As soon as he put it down, I picked it up and walked out with it.
I just got these grips for it yesterday and snapped a couple of shots.
I'm taking it to Nelson Ford on Saturday to have him do his "SuperSmith" action job on it. The Gunsmith, Inc.: SuperSmith

Why the 629-4? Is there a difference between 2, 3, or 4's ?

I was at that show and "missed" that 629. Glad it went to a good home. I had one just like it in the late 80's as my snake gun (w/.44 shot shells) during MT varmint hunts. Cool guns.

I don't shoot much double-action, especially with N-frames, but this gun almost cries out for a little of that, and it gets it every now and then.
Good looking 629 you have found. Congratulations on the new purchase.

Kleiss1, read this... Smith & Wesson's .44 Magnum
Dryheat, thanks for "missing" this one! They do a good job at this show with the tent and coolers for people in line and free parking. I have trouble going to the one at the fair grounds which is the weekend after this one.

Good find. And Nelson will do a superb job for you. He's done a number of my Smiths. The work he did on my .45 ACP Model of 1988 made it the slickest Smith for DA firing I've ever handled. I know you'll enjoy the gun when he's through.

New edition: Porn thread worthy
I picked this up a few days ago, 629-1, 6"barrel. Very clean and everything is tight. Can't wait to shoot it!

Congrats on the purchase. I'd like to have one just like it. So in that interest, would you share with the nosey types (like me) what was the app. price?

Thanks! I paid $550 for it. It was setup for competition use and has the trigger worked on. I took it to a local gunsmith and had him check it out thoroughly because I was concerned by the light trigger pull. He assured me it was done proffesionaly so I can't wait to get a few rounds through it. New 629's in my area are upwards from $750+. Good luck with your search!
