Custom 16-4 * now w/ pics
So, I picked up a 4" 16-4 NIB last month. It took a couple of weeks to get the nerve to shoot it. Was tempted to leave it as a safe queen, but I'm a shooter, not collector. Ran 200rds thru it yesterday. Paper bulls eyes, metal plates and bowling pins didn't stand a chance. I'm a huge 32 fan & this revo has to be one my favorites. I've already started looking for a 6". Now that I have knocked the "new" off of it, how sacrilegious would it be to send it off for .327 conversion & some hard chrome?

I had borrowed a cylinder reamer from one of our forum members and had my gunsmith make my 4 inch 16-4 into a .327 and I love it. I am not so sure about chroming it though. I have a .44 special Wolf and Klar and the nickle finish is nice but when shooting it is very hard to align the sights because everything is reflecting the light so much.

The bluing on this gun is absolutely perfect. It really is a gorgeous gun. I had Miculek grips waiting for it. The hard chrome is more like stainless steel than chrome or nickel. I'd leave the rear sight & patridge front black. Probably bead blast the sight rib for a matte finish & brush the sides & cylinder. Just make it easier to clean & much more durable than the blue. Then again, there is something sexy w/ a revolver w/ some wear from honest use (not abuse).

I fully agree with having the cylinder reamed to chamber the .327 Federal, it will add a LOT of flexibility to the gun and its utility. As to the hard chrome treatment, well, I like blued guns the most. Since the finish is excellent, why not wait until it needs refinishing, you can always have that done. If properly cared for (which far too many do not do), you can shoot that gun and keep it looking nearly pristine for many years. For example, I have my grandfather's Savage 99, which he bought new in1935, and was his favorite hunting gun. It took several hundred deer, many black bears, and who knows how many fox, but you sure couldn't tell it by looking at it. The only wear is a little bit of handling wear on the lower portion of the forearm finish, otherwise, it looks brand new. That is a gun that is now 77 years old, has been hunted with, used for target shooting, plinking, etc. all those years, but looks almost new as a result of proper care. That is typical for all the guns which have been in my family. I have a number of guns that I bought used that, sadly, did not receive such care, and show it (but I have improved most of them, without refinishing the metal). It always amazes me to see the devastation that so many people can wreak on their guns, mostly through neglect and mishandling. Anyway, you can always send that gun in for hard chrome when the finish needs it, but you can enjoy the beauty of a blued gun until then!

I wouldn't have a problem having it reamed out to chamber the .327 Magnum.
I think you would be ruining the gun having it hard chromed, especially if the blued finish is as nice as you describe it.
Save the chrome for something that NEEDS it.

Great pistol! Reaming to .327 Magnum would be a good move for ammo availability and utility, but will impact value at resale. Leave the finish alone. When and if it gets worn, then maybe a brushed chrome w/ the front and rear sight left alone. Nickle would also be good. JMHO. Sincerely. brucev.

Good looking set up, now you have to find some speed loaders and a speed loader carrier for your rig!!

Very nice indeed. How well does that holster fit the 4" barrel with underlug? Whose work is it and is it specially made for that application? I'm particularly interested because of my project gun which is the same but in stainless. You guys are killing me with all these great 327s while I'm still waiting for mine!

I have a very nice 4" 16-4. Would love to have a 327 cylinder fitted to it rather than ream the original cylinder.

I just bought a 16-4 cylinder yesterday. A forum member had seen it and let me know about it. I paid $150.00 for it.

Anyone know who does a good job of reaming a cylinder out to 327 and what the cost is? Or, where you can get a 327 reamer and what it costs?

Rub it in peyton. hehe. I do want the 6" though. Froggie, the Threepersons holster was ordered for a 4" model 66 I have, but the 16-4 fits nicely. The maker of this rig is Lobo Gun Leather. Can't recommend them enough! Great quality with reasonable prices & turn arround times.
