Default no lock revolvers with "extra" hole?

I have seen numerous pictures of "no lock" revolvers, specifically M&P 340s that appear to have the tiny hole where the internal lock pivoted. Did S&W just fill or neglect to machine the large hole for the lock but leave the little hole in the side of the gun? Hoping to get a "no lock" gun if more ever become available and would like to know the details - Thanks
