Default 617-2 Wolf power rib type 1 misfire problems

Hey guys. I have been shooting my 617 in some speed competitions and I decided to lighten the trigger pull. I contacted Wolf and they recomended I use the type 1 hammer spring for reliability. I ordered the kit and settled on the 15 lb trigger return spring (the 13 was sticking) the type 1 hammer spring is supposed to keep the factory weight but be smoother. It is smoother but I am getting lots of misfires now no matter what ammo I use. I am getting 4-5 misfires per hundred before it was zero. Has anybody else experienced this? I am contacting Wolf to see what they say. I like how the spring feels but I can't live with the misfires. I was going to install a Apex tactical firing pin but I contacted them and they do not recommend it for rimfires. Any suggestions?

Be sure the mainspring screw is tight and you may need to change ammo if light indent misfire persists.

The mainspring screw is tight and I even tried match ammo with the same result. I put the factory spring back in for now but I would like to be able to use the Wolf spring it has a better feel.

I just give the factory mainspring a workover anymore. Too many Wolff springs have been less than satisfactory. At leat try polishing the hooks and the gap in between. Don't go crazy. Just remove the roughness. I actually will do the entire spring to a high polish, but it takes a long time using hand stones. But no potential for getting localized heating that way. After that, it depends on how "practical" the revolver is intended to be.

Rimfire revolvers need stout springs. It is the nature of the rimfire cartridge -- denting that rim and igniting the primer takes more evergy than setting off a centerfire primer, and there's no way around it.

I've used several Wolff spring kits in my center fire S&W revolvers
and have usually had good luck with them.

However, my M617 did not like them and I would get several miss fires. I had to go back to the factory main spring to keep it working right.

Check out and follow the procedure for re-springing your 617
laid out by the contributor STAINZ. I did it to both of my 617's
and they work great. It involves a little testing but once done
my guns have operated flawlessly. It is in this thread:
S&W 617-6 and Wolff Spring Kits

Thanks I'll give that a try. That makes sense the strain screw does go right into the power rib. Also I just realized I've been misspelling Wolff oops. I will try that because the trigger does feel better and doesn't stack like the stock spring.

I picked up some 8-32 set screws from the local bolt dealer. I installed it and headed to the range. I adjusted it 1/2 turn at a time and after 1 full turn the misfire problem went away. I ran 150 rounds through it with no failures. Now problem solved and the trigger feels better than stock. Also I did swap out the trigger return spring for the 14 lb spring and it ran flawless. Thanks for the help guys.
