Found One of My "Grail" Guns Today
I found one of my "grail" guns today at my LGS. Dave told me it came in this morning. It left this afternoon It's a four-inch Model 57-1 with presentation case, paperwork, and cleaning kit (been used). The flocking on the inserts almost entirely gone, so I removed what was left of it and will look into getting it reflocked. The revolver is in great shape, about 95%. It locks up like a bank vault and looks to have been shot very little. I need to find some target stocks for it and get rid of the rubber. I traded a six-inch Pre-war M&P, "even steven" for it. I believe I got a great deal. I've been looking for a four-inch M57 to keep my M58 company for quite some time now.

Thanks for the good comments guys. I'm happy to find such a deal. I started handloading for the .41 Magnum thirty three years ago. My first Smith & Wesson was an eight and three eights Model 57 in Nickle. That revolver as well as numerous six-inch M57's and a double handful of Ruger Blackhawks have come and gone. I've had a handgun chambered for .41 Magnum within reach since the begining. This one I think will be handed down to one of the Grandsons.

Sweet trade. It appears that she was well cared for. .41 Magnum rounds are difficult to find locally, but you sure have that covered being a reloader. Well done.

Congrats on the find. I have the M58 4" and M57 6" both in nickel finish taht i purchased new. I went back to my LGS and he was sold out of the M57 4" in nickel as well as most of the other S&W N frames. I really like shooting the 41mag round too. Its probably the missing link caliber wise that i been looking for since my 44mag and 357mag buying days. Now tell me you don't own a 41mag?
