I received my letter from Roy Jinks today about my model 586-4 with 3" barrel and rubber Hogue combat grips.My gun was shipped to RSR Wholesale Guns West in Sparks Nevada on August 9 1994 with 199 others of the same set up.It seems that RSR had a store in Milwaukee that received 108 of these same set up guns on August 4 1994 according to a letter lhump1961 recieved for his 3" 585-4.So it looks like there are 308 of these out and about somewhere.I am very happy I have one.

OK sorry for my ignorance of this subject, but what is a S&W letter?

roy jinks....historian for S&W,all round good guy and one of the most knowledgeable folks in the world on S&W will issue you an offical letter on your gun...cost is currently $50...typically the letter can tell you when and where your gun shipped to...configuration it left the factory in I.E.barrel length,type of grips,sights,finish etc.also tells you a bit of history on that particular model...i just got one back on a pre model 27,5-screw...it shipped in july 1954...within 10 days of my birthday...
