I have a 340pd. I really like carrying it with 158grain 357's. However to shoot this "comfortably" I had to change the grips. I have been through several sets and right now I really like the Uncle Mikes but I may try the Pachmayr compac grips. I have a set of the full sized combat Pachmayr grips and they are nice to but way to big for CCW IMO.

So what I am looking for is a Crimson Trace LG-405 style grip without the laser. I have no need for the laser but I do have a serious need for the air cushion on the rear spine of the grip as shooting 158g's out of this is insane without recoil absorption.
Any ideas?? Does anyone make grips just like these without the laser or does anyone have a wasted Crimson Trace LG-405 grip they might want to sell me. As in wasted I mean broken laser as I am going to chop that off and gut the grip when I get it.

Any help, suggestions or Ideas would be great.

Thanks,

Mj

Have you tried the Hogue Monogrips? They are a full sized grip more a 305 size. I could pocket carry with them in many but not all pockets. If you IWB or OWB I wouldn't think they would hinder. They were my favorite early (340 shooting .357) on before I came to appreciate the CTs.
They protect well, actually better than than the 405 because you are dispersing the recoil energy over a larger cross sectional area. They provide a full grip and for around $20 would be worth a try.
I have them (CT) on a 642, 340 MP, K and L Frames. I use the 405 for pocket and 305 for all other. I carry only plus P 135 grain GD but wouldn't hesitate to carry the 357 just not my first choice.

I find the Pachmayr Compac to be much more comfortable on my 442 and 638 than the CT405 grip if I'm going to be shooting more than one or two shots. More padding on the backstrap and a place for your pinky finger. They are slightly thicker, but still quite concealable. May be a bit sticky when brand new, but skin oil from shooting/handling and the microscopic lint from cover garments take care of that fairly quickly.

The Hogue grip is one I did not try yet. I really do not want to go to a full size grip as this is my main daily carry. I use a universal clipdraw to carry it in my waistband and I really like the conceal-ability with it (sometimes it's strapped to my leg and the larger grip grabs my pants too much). IMO all I really need is more protection/padding on the backstrap instead of anywhere else when using the maggies. This is not a range gun so it will not see tons of action and hopefully no action at all except for the few practice shots I take each month.

Thanks for the info.

Smaller Hogue version is the "Bantam", many folks seem to like them. Might be worth a look.
