Several years (10+) ago I bought my girlfriend a new Lady Smith model 65-6. After all that time, I'm exploring options to replace the standard S&W rosewood grips. These are the fat grips with the finger grooves, and while nice looking & well finished, they are perhaps just a bit too smooth for maintaining a good grip when shooting. Since it wasn't my gun, I never shot it all that much, but: after picking up a 627 Pro last January, the difference between those two grips is significant. I much prefer the rubber (Hogue?) grips on the 627, better contour, and much more bite. Especially noticeable when switching from one gun to the other at the range when we're out shooting together. So, I'm, thinking of getting a similar type grip for the Lady Smith. Have any of you replaced the original wood grips on a M65-6 LS, and if so, what did you use & how did you like the new grips? I'm not planning on getting rid of the original grips, just looking for an option.

Well since you don't like the smooth grips you probably won't like the ones I put on mine recently.

A checkered version of the stocks on bamabiker's gun can be found, but it sounds as though wood Hogues is what you seek. They are the same dimensions as the rubber stocks and available with checkering.

While I'm not a great fan of rubber, an exception is the old Uncle Mikes for the round butt K-frames.
S&W was closing them out a while back and they're on auction sites regularly.
Only ones my wife will tolerate.

I have the Pachmayr Decelerator on my 65-3 and love the cushion over the backstrap. Can shoot all day with 38 Specials and no discomfort. It's a pretty big grip front to back, but it's not all that wide. The rubber is fairly squishy and just handling it you may feel like you won't really have complete control over the gun, but I shoot mine in IDPA matches every month and have absolutely no control problems with the grips.

These are Pachmyers on a 66-5. I believe they were as issued.

Folks, Thanks! I'll begin looking around. What I had in mind is more like what 5Wire posted, whatever they are (Pach or Uncle Mike's).

Anyone else, feel free to share if you've got other options.

I have two questions regarding the stock grips:

1 - Is it normal to have a small gap between the bottom of the rear frame and the inlet cut on the wood grip? The LS has about a 1/8" gap there.
2 - Is there some trick to getting the wood grip off? I took out the single screw on the grip, but the wood is really tight to the frame and didn't pull off. An excellent fit, but I didn't want to begin using ignorant brute force to remove it, especially since it isn't my gun. Any tips on that?

I checked, they're marked Uncle Mikes's 59006 And, oops, I posted the wrong photo , what I posted above is a 66-5. Here's the 65-6, same grips, I'm pretty sure.

You were correct not to try prying off the grips. There actually is a trick. After you loosen the screw, leave it in the hole and give it a light tap with a small mallet or a screwdriver handle, and that should pop off the OPPOSITE stock (grip). Then from the open side, you can give a tap to the inside of the other stock.

These are a good all-around grip for RB K frames, and better still S & W has them on clearance:
