Price/reality check 10-7 2inch
Just saw a really nice Model 10-7 2inch roundbutt..... lets say 95%. Barrel is not pinned so it's from around 1982-1988. Looks like it has been in a drawer for 25 years. No holster wear.
The dealer is saying it's "rare"..... he's never had one before and to tell the truth can't remember the last time I've seen one..... if ever. I've seen 3 inchers but really don't remember seeing a 2 inch gun in over 30 years of shooting, buying and trading. I always assume they were pretty common police "plain clothes" guns.
Thinking with some new grips it would be a nice gun for the wife (she prefers the triggers on K frames to J frames)......I'm thinking $300 gun dealer has it listed at $425 but was firm with me at $400+tax.
With the state of the gun world... do I need a reality check? Is this a $400 gun these days?

That gun isn't rare but it is not common either. That price isn't bad for a gun in the condition you are describing. I sold one like it for $450 last year.

The 2 inch model is not that rare. That said the reason you do not see many is that people keep them. The really rare model is the 3 inch less than 10% of all production was 3 inch and the number is getting smaller now that Smith no longer makes 2 or 3. The price is very good. I will always regret selling off two of these 4 years ago.

I think a 2" "really nice" model 10 for $400 is going to be sold very quickly. The question is, will you be the proud new owner or will it be someone else. Once you get it home you won't care if you paid what you "think" might have been a few bucks too much. In a couple of years you probably won't even remember what you paid. I don't know your financial situation, but, if you would pay 300, and you seem to really want it, I would just go get it. Good luck with this.

2" md 10s are not rare, problem is that many I see for sale are SB and
the RB is much more desirable in my opinion. I have two 2" md 10 RBs,
a 10-5 with a good bit of wear and a really nice 10-7 with the pinned
barrel. $400 does seem a bit high but truth is I wouldn't sell my 10-7
for $400.

A 95% Model 10 snubbie for $400? I would have left with it.

Thanks for the input guys......
In carry guns I transitioned from 10s to 19s in the early 80s........and from 2-2.5 inch barrels to 3 inch barrels around 1986.........
But at 26oz. and knowing my wife will only shoot .38s......and
she can get a full 3 finger grip on a K frame ........and
a 2" barrel doesn't give an aggresser any leverage if he got a hand on it....and
I have a set of "Secret Service grips in the"big box of Grips"............and
her birthday is in a couple of months
I think I'm talking myself into this 10... I can rationalize anything...LOL
