Default Model 29 rear factory sight

I am wanting to order the rear sight for my 29 with a 6 inch barrel.
located four part numbers based on barrel size i assume from MidwayUSA.
However when i contacted them they advised i contact a gunsmith for the correct size.
Wondering if from your order history or knowledge if anyone has the part number for mine?
Thanks

do you need the entire assemby or just a replacement blade?

do a search for my post on new model vs old model. I needed a replacement rear sight as well for my 29. unless you have a 1993 and later gun with the shorter round end leaf, you're going to have to do some searching. Midway just has new model rear sights. as for height, i cannot speak to which the 6" barrel had but my 8 3/8" barrel left the factory with a .146" rear blade.

Thank you for the reply, I need the assembly as my 29 had optics installed when i purchased it.
Is a 1993 so i should be ok with Midways assembly if i can find a part number related to barrel length.
The 29 came in 4",6",6 1/2",8 3/8 and 10 5/8 barrel lengths as you probably know.
.146 came on your 8 3/8 model, narrows it down a little more.
Listed sizes are,
.086
.136
.146
.160
.196

i would go with the .136" or .146". your only talking about 1/100" so it will be like getting used to shoot any new gun.

Might I recommend a quick trip over to + Bowen Classic Arms + Parts Store or + Bowen Classic Arms + Parts Store which is a pretty complete listing of barrel lengths/sight heights.
regards,
Stu

It might be cheaper just calling up S&W and ordering the factory part from them.

they have very limited supply of old style rear sight assemblys. I just ordered one from them and had to order the .160" because the only assembly they had "old style" had that blade on it. Now they were more than happy to also sell me a seperate .146" blade. Since all the blades are the same, new vs old, I chose to just get one from another less costly supplier.

I'm not so sure. Jeff at S&W last week told me that my M29 8.375" left the factory with a .146" blade height. The web site says .160". Unless proven otherwise I am going to take the manufacturers word for it. Still a great resource however.
