Default 11 lb wolf rebound spring

I recently installed a 13 lb rebound spring and the 8 lb hammer spring on a j frame with excellent results. No ignition issues after several hundred rounds of various ammo types.

I noticed that wolf makes an even lighter rebound spring - 11 pounds. I've had no reset problems with 13 pounds, but 11 pounds seems light. Anybody tried this light of spring and had issues?

If you get many replies they will most likely be to tell you that they didn't even go with the 13lb because it's a defensive gun and they don't want to have the worry of out-shooting such a light rebound spring...

I purchased the Shooters Pak with the 13,14,15 rebound springs. Like you I've got the 13lb installed and have had no problems with it either. I have no problem with having this gun in my carry rotation. If you decide the try the 11lb and get a 3 pack I'll buy one of them from you.

I have peripheral neuropathy which causes weakness in my hands and wrists. I did a trigger job on my 442 smoothing the innards and installing an eight pound mainspring and an eleven pound rebound spring. I also changed to a Pachmayr compact grip. My snubby is completely dependable, there's no problem with reset and I'd like to be able to move my fingers well enough to outrun the trigger.

I use an 11lb or 12lb Wolf rebound spring in all of my J, K, L and N frame S&W revolvers. I have never had a problem with an of them as long as everything inside is smooth, clean, and lubricated. The S&W J frame that is in my pocket has a Wolf 11lb rebound and a 8.5lb mainspring. It is seventeen years old and has fired many rounds without a single problem. I trust it with my life. My 686 has been fired thousands of rounds with a Wolf 11lb rebound and standard power rib mainspring, without one single problem. If the intennals are not smooth and the gun is not kept clean and lubed I can see where there could be a slow trigger return, but that won't happen with mine. I like the feel of a smooth, light trigger. Can't guarantee you won't have a problem with any of your guns using an 11lb spring, just saying that is what I use.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give them a try in some of my J-frames and see how they work. I've stoned most of them already when I installed the 13 pounders, so I'm looking forward to trying the 11's.

I am glad to hear the #11 is working ok. I have a #12 in one, and several #13's. I just ordered a 10 pak of 13's from Wolff to have on hand. I have never had a problem with reset speed with the 12 or 13's.
I do keep my internals clean, and well lubed with Lucas Gun Oil (light weight synthetic) or my home mixed version.

I just put a Wolfe J Frame Kit with a 13 pound rebound spring in a friend of my wifes 442 she was having a problem pulling the trigger on. An 11 or 12 might have been even better for her. The kit with the 13 resulted in a trigger that felt like my factory 442 Pro Moon Clip.

Hi 'peoples,' now that we're on the subject, what is the 'poundage' on the Smith main- and rebound springs as they come from the factory? I'm having to have a gunsmith check out my purchases of even gently-used guns because folks seem to be unhappy with their trigger pulls and cut down these springs themselves and function is affected. Again the other day, with a 4" 66 that occasionally did not reset (Thanks for that term!).

I'm sure some folks are tired of me describing this, but I'm even more tired of having it happen! Thanks for any help.

Somewhere (wolf website?) I read that the stock j-frame springs are 18# rebound and 8-1/2# main. I leave the stock mainspring but install a 13# rebound spring in my Chiefs and that works out well. Never tried it, but I can see where a trigger finger might outrun the trigger return with much less than 13#.

The fact is that new springs lose tension and in a defensive gun you could happen on the failure at the exact wrong moment with lighter than factory replacement springs. Starting with factory rated springs is a step in a direction more forgiving of spring weakening.

Replacing factory springs for lighter aftermarket ones regardless of your physical ability in a defensive gun is not (IMO) a good plan. A better tack would be to find a semi auto with more desirable traits to fit an individual physical problem.

Best regards

Gary

PS. can you defend your decision to replace perfectly good factory springs in a court of law?

My defense would be that "it IS a factory spring".
Seriously though, I've heard some people express the same concern about carrying handloads in a self-defense gun. Have you ever heard of a case when a private citizen involved in a self-defense shooting was taken to task for his trigger being too light, or for carrying handloads? I think as long as it was a clean shoot, trigger pull & ammo isn't gonna be an issue. if it's not a clean shoot, even a 20# trigger and factory ball ammo isn't gonna save your ***.

Maybe someone might buy a used gun and not have any personal knowledge of what kind of springs are inside.
"What springs!"
Or, that the gun has a non factory action job.
Ignorance can be bliss!

Best,
Rick

The trigger pool in Single gives me about 2.6LB with a Woolf 12LB spring and I'm going to try the 11 lB Woolf Spring, to have( I hope) almost 2Lb trigger Pool.. And I'M curios to Know what will appen..I will keep you informed my friends..

I run 14# rebound springs in matched Model 66s (old style, firing pin on hammer) that I shot over 20 yrs in Stock Service revolver. I had a class win in an Oklahoma State Championship by 0.9 sec (total 15 stages) when the second place finisher had FOUR FAILURES TO RESET. He said he had never had a problem in practice.

My wife and I had talked about her getting an airweight she could carry IF laws changed !! Well a few weeks later she came home with a brand new s&w EDC kit with a s&w 360J 357 mag in it . Price was crasy low under $600 dollars but had one awful trigger pull some where around 13lbs .

I've been a fan of Apex Tactical for some years so I called and talked to Randy Lee the owner about this kit and ordered one . It is more costly than just springs but comes with a new and better design firing pin and spring, main and trigger return spring (rebound spring) . I also deactivated that darn trigger lock while in there . I do not know what the spring weights are .

So with the kit installed the DA pull is 8lb .22oz and a 2lb.02oz SA average . We have fired about 100 rounds of reloads some with cci pistol and wolf rifle primers that I would assume are harder and all fired . I hope it gets a bit better with range time . I have an old stock Taurus 85SS with a all stock trigger and springs that's lighter by a about 3ox for SA and 10oz for DA but its been reliable for 32 years .

While I don’t have a problem with lighter springs in an EDC I will add this. I put an 11lb spring in a DAO 4” model 64. While dry firing as fast as I can, I can outrun the trigger. However there is zero chance I could actually shoot the gun that fast.
