I know this area is for smith revolvers but the situation could very well be on a smith. My local gunshop has a Ruger redhawk thats converted to 500 Linebaugh with a 5 shot cylinder and a reamed out barrel.
The barrel is marked 50 cal and CCG on the rear face of the cylinder. Mr Hamilton Bowen said its absolutely not his.
Have any of you heard of a CCG outfit that would rechamber guns. The price is cheap 675 for the pistol. If its unknown, I would be afraid to venture further. As alwasy, any input is appreciated

To add, if it is actually a Clements gun, and you don't purchase it, please pass on the LGS info to me as I would be very interested.

I'd be a buyer at that price, the work done to it cost more than that, if it looks to be in good shape you should grab it.

If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Bowen has stated for the record that he will not convert any of Ruger's stainless steel barrels to anything .500 caliber due to the variations in Ruger's barrel manufacturing process. Obviously you do not have a Bowen revolver, but if Bowen feels that a Ruger barrel should not be bored out to anything .500, I would consider that a clue. I am assuming that the revolver in question does have a Ruger barrel?

I have a Bowen custom Redhawk (a .45 Colt) and I have spoken to Hamilton Bowen on the phone a few times. My barrel re-bore was done by Cliff LaBounty who sold his business not long after my conversion was done. Bowen has stated that this shop was the only one he felt was skilled enough to do this kind of work. If you can find out who actually did the re-bore that would be a big help. As far as I know Bowen's shop does not re-bore barrels.

I have never heard of CCG but I would be suspicious of any custom revolver that requires such a high level of custom work yet costs only $675. My Bowen Redhawk is considerably less sophisticated than a .500 yet I'd never sell it for $675, honest hard use and all.

David,

You are mistaken. Bowen builds an outstanding 50 caliber conversion on the redhawk and super redhawk platform, in both 50AE and 500LB. Since Cliff LaBounty sold his business,it has been exceptionally difficult to get the current owner to do timely work. Al Siegrist out of Michigan also does outstanding re-bore work, and has worked with Dave Clements, Alan Harton and Jim Stroh. If it is actually a Dave Clements gun, I would give 675 in a heartbeat.

ccg ruger

No one at the LGS knows anything about it. They traded for it and put a price tag on it based what they paid. Obviously the gun changed hands so no one knows what it is or what its worth. I need to RUN down there tomorrow and scarf it up.
Thanks to all of you for your input. I will post pics if I get it!!!

Haris,
If it isn't a Clements gun then try Clark Custom Guns. They are located in Louisiana. Had a M10 done over there in the early 90's and last year had a 1911 tuned. They do very nice work. Haven't checked their web site lately but sounds like something they may do. They have dropped a lot of their conversions so if it is not listed give them a call. Great folks.

Jim Clark Sr. (who has passed away) originated the shop. Still family owned and operated. First class work but a long wait. I believe at one time Jerry Miculek may have been heavily involved with the shop.

500 LINEBAUGH by CCG- CLEMENTS!!!!!HAPPY ENDING

Turns out its a Clements!! WOW! How Cool! After seeing the comments last night, I speeded to the gunshop and it still was there. I fondled it and filled out the paperwork. The shop owner had no clue what he had and it came to $675 out the door.
There is no mistaking. This pics show CCG and this is how I have seen other Clements' pieces marked. Thank you so much forum members.
HERE IS THE GUN

look at the Barrel marking!!!

Awesome gun at an incredible price. I'd agree that the work cost as much or more than what you paid.

Nice! The barrel work alone probably cost more than $675. The full lug configuration means it's definitely not a re-bore. The custom five shot cylinder is some serious dollars too.

And I thought I got a good deal when I grabbed my 940 for $299 from Cabela's...

That gun should have sold for at least $1000 more. A new build like that from David would likely run $2500 minimum. As noted above, David's work is easily the equivalent of Bowen's as is Jim Stroh's and Alan Harton's to name just a couple of great builders out there. This from one that owns multiple customs from Bowen, Harton and Stroh and, previously, David Clements. Now get yourself some brass, dies and cast bullets (Montana Bullet Works is a good source) and load some 400 gr slugs mildly to 900 fps or so and have some fun. You have a very fine piece there. If you want to sell it post it over on the Ruger Forum and someone from Lee Martin's forum will jump on it if priced as I suggest. Here's my 500 Linebaugh.
