Like most shooters to me K-22 means any K frame .22 and variations are still made. To some collectors K-22 implies a post WWII pre-model number K frame .22 or one made from 1946 to mid 1957. The currently made K-22 Classic is intended to satisfy the need for a light barrel post WWII through early 1950s K-22. The most numerous and hence easiest to find K frame .22s are 6” model 17s. In my eye they are closer to a pre-17 than the current Classic 17. They’re less expensive than a new Classic and close enough to a pre-17 to satisfy most folks.
Other wise the more common heavier full lug barrel stainless 617s are fine revolvers.
