Need help asap - Ashland Model 60?
Local guy listed this on a local forum as an Ashland Model 60 for trade. I'm not familiar enough to confirm/deny this. Just want to be safe rather than sorry. Thanks!

It appears to be legit to me,It would be hard to fake the large shark fin front sight.I would however be worried about "bubba" gunsmithing.Someone painted the front sight red and the real bad sign is the jeweled hammer. From the pictures it looks like only one side of the trigger was jeweled? Either way someone has been under the "hood" on this one so beware.

I noticed the jeweling. Wasn't too thrilled about that either...
Looks like it was done on both sides though, the lighting kinda throws it off. Its the original owner since 85', he states. I'm trading a 1960's pinned J-Frame for it... Worth the risk? Anything I can do upon inspection to make sure its more or less okay?

It is one of a batch of 660 distributed by Ashland Shooting Supply. I watched a few of these that were still in original condition sell across the internet in the $700 to $750 range a few years ago. This one has detractions from original condition. Its red ramp is an alteration, its hammer and trigger were jeweled, and worst, it was polished with metal polish. So much for original finish. The only way to value it is to ask yourself how bad you want it as a shooter or carry piece.

I got some back story on the gun.
He confirmed the front sight was notched for the red ramp.
Also confirmed all the jeweling, etc was done by a proper gunsmith back in 1987 that was a certified S&W warranty/repair shop... as well as polished internals. If the ramp has been in there since 87, I guess its not going anywhere?
The trade is this gun for one of my LNIB Nickle J-Frames... thoughts?
My gun just sits in the safe... its Nickle, no plans of carrying it or shooting it any time soon.
The gun pictured above (in question) I'd plan to carry and shoot.

Even though it is not original, it seems like a good trade for one of your safe queens. Should be a nice carry gun and shooter..

Thanks for the info and feedback.
I really appreciate it.
It sounds like a neat gun, and its got some cool history behind it from this guys Father, who has now passed away.

I’d make the trade in a heart beat, and not just because I’m partial to adjustable sights. Standard 36s, even nickeled, pinned and NIB are common revolvers. The Ashland 60s are scarce and fill a nitch other wise vacant except for rare model 50s.

Trade is a go.
Meeting him tomorrow AM to do the deal.
I'll post better pics here when I get it home to help iron out the details/issues.

If I had been in your position, I would be posting how I had already gotten it, not asking whether I should get it! That gun is very close to the top of my bucket list of S&Ws, and even if I had had to swap out the internals, I would have gotten it and done what was needed. If the work was legitimately done as described, it would be a plus for me, and the polish work on the stainless is the reason we like stainless... it doesn't wear off! I'd say ya dun good!

Cool! It would be EZ enuf to either polish off or matte the jeweling.

I'd sure like to get one of these, or a model 50 (or "model 36 target").

Just got done w/the trade.
Its definitely not a hack job.
Front sight ramp was installed w/skill.
The jeweling was done right, even though its not my thing.
Lock up, trigger, hammer, etc. Everything feels as it should.
That being said.. I'll post proper pictures of it in a bit. Sun isn't all the way up yet.

Side not, I'm not going to try and sell the gun. But, I am a trader. Any of you guys that might have a nice revolver to trade. I'd listen to offers. I like 6 shot med frame guns better than the j-frames. Also would prefer a .357.

Nice trade....I bought one of the Ashland model 60s in the 80s
and later sold it. I haven't saw another one for sale except on GB. I never could get used to the shark fin front sight.

It came w/everything but the cleaning kit. No sales flyer or anything cool like that though
Like I said.. you guys that like it more than me. Hit me up w/an 4" and under med or large frame smiths. I'd much rather have a 6, 7 or even 8 shot gun. I have plenty of carry guns.. Just thought this thing was neat. I've been looking for a ported revolver for a while.
