Default Night Guard Questions

I've got the opportunity to purchase a used Night Guard for just under $800. It's in great condition. I handled, inspected, and dry fired and it felt really good. Very nice trigger too. I like the sights and the matte black finish. This one is an L frame with a 2.5 barrel. It would give me something different that I don't already own and my main use for it would be for conceal carrying. The thing is I'm just not partial to any of the newer S&W revolvers with the lock (as most of mine are from the 80s and under) but this one has caught my attention. I also don't know much about the scandium frames. Do they hold up over time? Are there any known problems with the matte finish wearing or rubbing off prematurely as I've seen on the 442 J frames?

I'd really like to get it but am wondering if the seller is over pricing. I feel like I could find another pinned and recessed Smith in excellent condition for less. Is the cost mostly because the NG series has been discontinued? There's not a whole lot of info out there on these. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance for your patience guys.

I don't think $800 is out of line. They are made from scandium, so you pay a premium. I have a 325, and my only real complaint is that it is a handful if you take the rubber grips off and put on wood. With the stock rubber grips, the N frame was a bit too big for my hands. Wooden stocks with an exposed backstrap fit better, but it really wasn't an all day shooter then. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Out of curiosity, is it the 386 or the 396?
