Always wanted 9 mm. Rev. PC -I haven't seen the price yet but i'm sure it's over $1000. That's going to be a hot seller if it's under 1k

No, this is THE answer to the new USPSA rules allowing 8-shot revolvers - but they have to be scored minor. People will be clamoring to get one of these. This is very similar to the 627-4 PC that was built in limited quantities, and chambered in .38 Super. Only difference, beyond caliber, that I can see is the fluted titanium cylinder vs. the black, unfluted stainless cylinder of the 627-4. I'm assuming that, like the 627-4, this will come with a muzzle cap to replace the comp - since a comp would throw this in the Open division, where it wouldn't be competitive.

I have to greet this with some skepticism though. The video certainly looks legit, but I cannot find any reference to this model on either the web generally, nor S&W's site specifically. Being that April 1st is still a way off - I'll give this the benefit of the doubt. Smith will sell a ton of these, pretty much regardless of price.

JMHO

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I think it looks pretty cool, the shorter 9mm cartridge would mean faster reloads. It looks like a bolt-on comp like the 629 v-comp so it probably has a plain comp as well. Not sure why the barrel is so long though, would be better with a 3" or 4" barrel.

I dont know about the rest of you, but I noticed a new 460 in the background... Looks like their previous 3.5" Lew Horton model with no compensator and an unfluted cylinder

Yes the comp is removeable

open the cylinder from 9x19 to 9x23 and you end up with a very versatile revolver capable of shooting half a dozen different 9MM based cartridges.

As Pizza Bob noticed, this is similar to the previous 38 Super offering. So moon clips are already available for it.

The short cartridges make for very positive ejection and fast reloads.

Coltsaa,

Who made the spare cylinder for you? Looks like an incredibly versatile gun!

I'm thinking of getting a pro series done like that, but can't find a spare 627 cylinder.

Thanks,
QD

The unfluted cylinder is what came with the 627Pinto. The black cylinder is a stock S&W 357 Magnum cylinder that was re-chambered to 9x23 by Pinnacle.

I have four or five spare cylinders on hand for future projects, including two of the nickel ones. I always look for spare cylinders even when I do not have a project in mind.

I see the logic of keeping a spare cylinder. I haven't been able to find one, but am keeping an eye out. I called S&W and they said it would be next year before any were available.

They appear to be LPA sights imported from Italy by Precision Sales International (PSI). I have a rear sight (non-FO) coming for my 27-4.

Adios,

^This. I'd prefer that over 9mm. Although I can see some value in a 9mm revolver that's legal to use in various competitions.

I think the revolver platform would be great for 10mm/.40 however.

Some of you guys should get out more often and attend an ICORE or USPSA match...you'll find lots of folks very happy to see an 8 shot 9mm revolver.

Open your minds, gentlemen!

I'm sure they will sell some in certain competitive circles, but it isn't likely to be a big seller. So, in 25 years, someone will probably post detailed pictures of a 929 on this very forum. The poster will receive a dozen or so "likes" and numerous PMed offers to buy it. Guns that don't sell well, like the 547 and the Night Guard series, seem to become popular in these parts.

I'm no where near the expert that many people on this board are.

But I'd buy an 8 shot N-Frame 9mm in a minute.

Im no pro either but it sounds like a good back up gun for someone with a 9mm auto. I would like a shorter barrel option

I think it's a great idea but needs a lot of tweaking. 9mm is plentiful and inexpensive so for plinking this would be such a great gun for revolver fans. However the thousand dollar price tag throws inexpensive out of the conversation. A k frame with moons would probably have cost a lot less.

If set up properly it ought not take much tweaking at all.

The $1000 price tag for the revolver isn't so big a factor as the cost of the ammo for most competitors. Back when I was "serious" about shooting and factory ammo was cheap, burning 2-3000 centerfire rounds a month (spread over several firearms, granted) was not unusual. Which expenditure quickly eclipses the firearm's price! What's needed is reliability, ergomonics, and good accessories.

I'm amazed at how many of you don't get the idea that this was developed just for the revolver gun games. Take another look at the signature on the side and ask yourself what he does and how he got famous. It's a game gun and will probably be popular with those who do that.

I deleted about 20 posts here. Most did not add anything of value to the discussion of this new model. They were mainly of the "useless", "not interested", "will never buy one" ilk.

There is a strange dynamic in play in this 1980 to Present forum.
People not interested in old S&W's don't usually enter the other revolver forums to express their lack of interest in, or outright disdain for those items, yet it has always been common here.

That will change.

Enthusiasts of modern S&W's now have equal rights
on this forum. They can enjoy discussing and posting their guns just like people enjoy their older revolvers in the other three revolver forums on this board.

You are all invited to enjoy discussion of what you like on this board.
The haters and bashers are invited to shut up, or leave. We're all really tired of it.

Agreed.

Remember too, however, the 8-shot M627 .357 is/was available in a 2.5" barrel, suitable for carry.

Will the new 9mm be available with short barrel? Who knows!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBW3IJdU4bQ----------I saw a SW video and they were showing you new for 2014 -9 mm. PC Revolver. I e-mail SW and they sent me this <<........Reference number: LTK111770612267X Please use this ticket number in any correspondence with us.
Subject: New 9 mm Revolver
Dear Customer,
No, I just saw the video now that you told me about it. I had never heard of it either, and also cannot find it on our website. I have no information on the gun other than what you've told me, and what I just saw in the video.
It is brand spanking new, so the release is pending, although the video we released doesn't communicate that.
If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.
Sincerely,
Dere

I give this person, Dere, credit for being honest and admitting what he doesn't know.

But I have to wonder what further assistance he could give you given he had never even heard of the 929.

I'm looking forward to ordering one. I'll wait until it's announced formally so my LGS can find the right SKU to order.

Also given I live in California, it will take S&W a while to get it onto the approved handguns list. Shouldn't be a problem, it will just take time and California has to extract some money from the manufacturer to test it.

I have to think a lot of these restrictive laws here in CA are really just excuses to tax someone. For example, you have to pass a handgun safety test to buy a handgun. And pay a fee of $25. But the test is so easy that anyone who has ever seen a gun can pass without studying. And if you do fail, the LGS can give you a brochure to read that takes 10 minutes -- and then give you the test again.

Dave

What Colt SAA said. Ream the cylinder to 9x23 and shoot .38 super and many more 9mm based cartridges.
9x19
9x21
9x21.5 (SW .356TSW)
.38 super
.38 SC ?
9x23

Tom

I'd buy one... and then find somebody to convert it to 9x25 Dillon with a stainless non-fluted cylinder!

If the barrel is sized .355" it could be the Revolver from Heaven. If they put a .357" barrel on it, then it will be disappointing.
I'm rolling the dice, as I put my request in at my local dealer to get one.

I don't understand? 357 barrel can shoot 9 mm. What would a .355 barrel do for you ?

It's all about accuracy. 9mm (.355") bullets will not shoot accurately from a .357" bore...then there are also the chamber throat diameter to consider.

When S&W produced the 627-4 in 38 Super, they dropped the ball regarding bore and throat diameters...they were all over the place

S&W came out with two 9 mm rev. I want to order one but i don't see the barrel size that you were talking about. .355 vs 357. When you have time can you go to sw site and tell me, out of the two rev. witch one would be more of a bullseye gun ?
Thanks

Although I've not tried it, many say (and it stands to reason) accuracy can suffer when you shoot a .355" bullet down a .357" barrel.
