Default 65-2

I know you guys get this all the time and I swear I tried to search but... I'm meeting a guy Friday (if the weather allows!) with a very clean 65-2 w/4" barrel. He's interested in trading for a very clean Glock 26 I have. Here the G26 I would price $450 or so. On Gunbroker there's a 65 with a gouged back strap at $420 and a clean one at $470. A 3" barrel 65 is at $670! $450 a fair price? I'm also wondering about the notch rear sight. This won't be a carry piece and thinking I might be disappointed after the adjustable rear sight on the 686 I have. All opinions welcome. This is after all the internet, the opinion super highway!

I would think that would be a fair trade but I'm sure the experts will chime in here shortly.
I saw that post as well and it appears it may have been polished..but without seeing in person I couldn't be positive of that.
Please post photo's if you make the deal.

I really like my Model 65 and I think you will too. I have no problem with iron sights and prefer them to adjustable but I don't do the kind of shooting that requires that kind of accuracy. I aim for the center of the paper and never miss, the paper that is. I think it's a fair price/trade you're getting the best end of the bargain.

Collo,

I have both Model 19s and a Model 65 3” that I use for carry. Personally, for me, although the target sights on the Model 19s are far easier and faster to pick up quickly, the fixed sight Model 65 is a better concealment gun. The adjustable rear sight blade can be annoying in a concealment holster. You ARE going to be rubbing your arm on it and it will rub holes in your cover garments.

My suggestion is to beg, borrow, or steal two similar guns to shoot side-by-side to compare the difference in how quickly you can acquire the sights on the Model 65 in comparison to similar gun with larger, adjustable sights.

And all that being said, the Model 65 is an excellent pistol! Who cares if you over or under pay by $50. You’ll pass the Model 65 along to your descendants and it will still be a great gun 100-years from now. Carry it on your person, leave it under the seat of your truck, make it a bedside gun, carry it while hiking… it will do it all!

Hope that helps.
Frank

Without checking the SCSW, depending on year of manufacture it is probably pinned and recessed. I love the fixed sight guns and they are plenty accurate. I'd be all over it. I'd think you could probably get a few bucks for the Glock, depending how bad the guy wants it.

Glocks will always be easy to find, nice Smith revolvers are getting more scarce IMHO.

I have two of each, though my S&W 65's are 3" HB, RB versions and the Glock 26's are gen. 2.5's. I like both guns, obviously. Snubbie K frames cost big money in my area while Glocks hold steady and are more plentiful. Good luck with your decision.

I've got a 4"65-2 and a Glock 26. Tough call!

Am always reluctant to give up a good handgun. If you're ok with the condition of the revolver, buy it. True, Glocks will always be available (if we're all careful), but you're comfy with the one you have, and later on, who knows.

In my experience, the other party usually carps and moans that he got the short end of the deal. I no longer wanted that hassle.

Thanks for the input. I Emailed the guy this mourning telling him I'm going to pass on it. A little later on Armslist I saw where he re-posted it as for sale $550. From his Emails I got the feeling he of course has a over inflated value of that revolver and a under value view of my 26. He was hinting at wanting cash plus my 26.
I really like my 686 6" but would like something ...shorter. I'm going to hold out for a 3" or 4" L or K frame but with the adjustable rear sight.

You can always buy a Glock - the model 65 is a grail gun for many. I would make the trade if the 65 passes appearance and mechanical muster.

Hang in there one will show up unsuspectingly..I'd suggest a nice M19 in the 4".

Where in SC are you located? Anywhere near the SC/NC/GA border?

To the OP, I am not terribly fond of this 66-2, as I prefer my 3" 65's. I would take a Glock 26 in trade, but not even.
