More Collectible 650 Or 651
I have a chance to purchase either a NIB 650, Or a NIB 651. --The seller wants to keep one, and sell the other. He doesn't care if he keeps one or the other. Is one more collectible/ desirable than the other?-- I am leaning toward the 651 for the adj. sight advantage.
I would use it as an occasional range gun, I am mostly interested in current value differences, If any-- Thanks for all input.

I would say the S&W 650 over a 4" barrel 651.

Wow! As they say in NASCAR, you are a lucky dog!
I would say 2 inch 651 is most desirable, then 650, then 4 inch 651.
The last time I bid on a 2 inch 651 I think I went to around $1600 and it went much higher. A couple of years ago I offered $1000 for a 2 incher at a gunshow and the seller said my grips are worth $300! I said, ok, you keep the grips.
Then he yelled NO!

3" by far more collectible, the 4" more useful at the range

650 in my opinion. I had a much harder time finding a nice 650 than I did a 651. I passed on a few 651's until I found one with the aux .22 cylinder as a matter of fact.
IMHO the 650 is the more desirable for a collection of the two.

Here is my S&W 650.
This is a loud handgun, very particular about what it eats, and does not set any records in the accuracy department. It is plain neat, and handy. Mine likes the 33 grain Remington ammo, and the larger stocks help me some. I have fired a few others and they were about like mine. I do not claim to be a decent handgun shooter.
I also own a S&W 63. I tried several brands of ammo in this one and also changed the stocks. I shoot this one better.

I really like the "Banana" Stocks on your 650. The one I am looking at has the smaller type stocks. I wish they had this type.

I have some bananas if you get that far.
The 650 is the more collectible (scarce) and is cool, but it's "sights" are a speed bump and shallow groove. Very bad.
So if you want to actually shoot and hit something, go with the 651.

I would go with the 650. But then again, I already have a 4inch 651.

I am / was torn with the decision of which one to buy. So I decided to buy them both. He originally wanted to keep one, but I had a 34-1, 4" I gave him, plus some cash, he just wanted a plinker, so the 34 suited him fine.
New question--He has one L. R. cylinder with the only marking of a "V" on the rear of the cylinder. He doesn't remember if it came with the 650, or 651--Would this cylinder be interchangeable with both?

As I recall, the V is a common stamp on stainless cylinders but doesn't tell you which gun it fits. Try it on both guns; if it only works on one you have your answer, and you are a lucky guy if it works on both .

M-650 or M-651 or "BOTH"!
I read your post before you were able to get both which I wanted to suggest you do, I believe you made a good move by using the M-34-1 and whatever boot you offered to obtain them both. As mentioned before the 2" M-651 is the seldom seen target sighted version around these parts and often commands premium pricing and although the 4" M651 isn't as seldom seen its still not displayed for sale at every Gun Show either. The M-650 is just right and has the heavy barrel. With a set of "Target" stocks the M-650 or M-651 is a perfect carry gun for woods or varmints. You will enjoy shooting them but the noise from either one is deafening so always use ear protection as well as eye protection. Very nice revolvers with accessories, have fun!

I had a chance to buy a 651 2" about 5 years ago for $400 from a retired cop. I didn't have the funds ready at the time, he wanted an immediate sale....I should have robbed a bank. They're going for crazy money nowadays.

Very nice additions to your collection. I also have in my collection a 650, w/aux 22lr cylinder and original box, and a 651. The 22lr cylinder must have been fitted at some point in time because of the product code on the box is for magnum only. I have posted the code numbers in the past regarding the ones that were shipped with the aux 22lr cylinder. I will post the codes when I can find them. Would like to see some pics when you get a chance. Enjoy and good lock finding magnum ammo.

If you have the product code's for the aux. cylinder included models I would love to have them, as I hopefully will have the original boxes ( don't have them yet) for both pieces, I could determine which one the LR cylinder came with.

If I did this right, here are the product codes on the end label.
650 103801 mag & lr
650 103802 mag only
651 103901 mag & lr
651 103902 mag only
By the way, I tried the 22lr cylinder on the 651 and it did not rotate correctly.
