Model 360 scandium in .38. Is it rated for +p?
I was at Academy about to purchase a model 360 in 38. Stamped on the barrel was .38 special. The salesperson stated it was not rated for +p ammo. After some research on the internet I am getting mixed results. Can anyone tell me for sure if it will handle the +p ammo.

If it's the 360j, it should handle +p just fine. But then I'm just another random guy on the internet , call S&W customer service if you want a definitive answer.

360J
My son bought one new about a year ago & I'm real sure that I remember reading in the manual that it is +P rated, as that is how we've reloaded for it. They're a nice gun, kind of a mini NightGuard.
This Lipsey ad also states it's +P.

What was that??
Wasn't there something that S&W said about all .38s with a model number are rated for +P?

All of the .38 J frames since they went to the J magnum frame in the '90s are +P rated.
FYI- The .38spl 360J is built on the .357mag 360M&P frame.

There is a published flyer to the effect that all steel-framed model stamped .38 Specials are +P rated, but the answer when you speak to customer service varies greatly. I'd say use all your recoil tolerance and wallet can afford .

Thanks everyone for your help. I am excited about owning a Smith and Wesson. It will be my first. I now have Hk's and Sig's. Just got my CWP and want a j frame for my carry gun. Plus they are like money in the bank. Thanks again to y'all for your help.

That's because your 36 is built on the older style frame.
I'll repeat what I posted above - The guns built on the J magnum frames are +P rated, they made the frame change in the mid '90s.

Can someone definitely tell me whether the cylinder on the 360J in .38 is stainless steel or not? The packaging does not indicate this. I get 'yes' and 'no' answers. Thanks.

My 360J is from the first run of them and the cylinder is carbon steel.
