Default 125 gr GDHP .357/model 60

Anyone chrono'd this round out of a 2 inch bbl. I saw one internet velocity of 1187 out of a 2.125 in bbl. Will this round expand at 1200 fps? Anyone ever tested this round out of a snub? Expansion and penetration. Thx

The Speer 125 and 135 grain GDHP bullets are Plated and not jacketed. What this means is they do not have a stiff jacket to peal back. The pictures I have seen looks like they should work just fine.

I am planning on putting together another Fackler Water Box shortly to do a little bullet testing in. I would like to see for myself how some of the 38 Special +P and 357 Magnum ammunition performs out of my concealed carry revolvers.

I likewise would like to see what my reloads will do. I have some 125 JHP CorBon Contract bullets, 125 Ranier Plated HP's, some 125 and 135 GDHP Speer and some 140, and 158 JHP Hornady XTP's. I think somewhere I still have some Sierra 125's also.

Running some velocity figures would not hurt either. Most loads published will not make the velocity numbers quoted out of anything we own.

Bob

Don't know if this helps, but there is a poster on YouTube, TNoutdoors9, who has done about 300 velocity and expansion tests in gelatin. He uses a 3" bbl Ruger for .357 testing, not exactly the 2 1/8" of the 60, but 'close enough for government work,' IMO. Maybe he has tested the load you mention.

Worth a look?

P.S. He DOES test the 125gr Gold Dot .357!

The 125gr Gold Dot made 1230 fps through my 3 inch model 65. The 135 did 1100 fps from the same gun. Dean
