I'm doing a test and evaluation of the Smith M&P R8 for self-defense and law enforcement use. This 5" barrel N-frame is an 8-shooter using moon-clips and has a shrouded barrel with integral accessory rails. Today I was setting it up with different optics, lasers and tactical lights for either civilian or LE use. Here is the R8 tricked-out with a LaserLyte laser sight on the bottom rail, a Safariland RLS tactical light on the top rail and just behind it is a Leopold DeltaPoint reflex sight. With 8 Cor-Bon 125 gr. JHP loads who says the wheel-gun is obslolete?!

8 Shooter

It makes a great house gun. I have a 327 TRR8 on the nightstand every night. I don't quite agree with all the add-ons for that use but to each his own. I prefer Speer 38spl +P to reduce the recoil and flash a bit. I really like the capacity along with revolver simplicity. Impossible to limp wrist under stress.

Groo here
If you go with laser grips , a compact light under the barrel, and
a red dot sight there will be little you CAN't do.
I have one that dad used on his last deer hunt,357 leverevolutions and
a red dot .
" Got him a deer in his 81th year with a revolver"

I was thinking about just a plain-Jane Uncle Mike's Sidekick nylon holster. The RLS light is quick-detachable in about 2 seconds and it might not be too hard to modify a nylon rig for the reflex sight, plus it should have some "give" for the small laser sight. I have one in a Rubbermaid tub someplace, just a matter of finding it to experiment. I'm also using a Viridian light/laser unit on this gun attached to the bottom rail. It comes on and off fairly quickly if you want to use a holster. Mostly this R8 would just serve as a house gun, not something you'd pack around; unless you are into open carry, which I am not.

COOL! What about a holster?

Cool setup...

It made me think of the AR below.

1. My OCD is telling me it needs something off to the right side (maybe velcro the moon clips right to the barrel lol) and 2. Wow, thats quite a holster full o' gun.

Hmmm, my Governor needs an accessory rail!

Several years ago, when the PC627 UDR production started back up, I bought a 'spare' one for a house gun. I keep it loaded with moonclipped +P 158gr LHPSWC. The mass absorbs the little recoil while the OR front sight is visible in low light (If you can't see your target...). Shorter - and less expensive - than a 327 R8. No electronics... no batteries. Like the latest in digital cameras, it is a very intuitive 'pick it up and point & shoot' device.

My Governor doesn't need a rail - it needs an OR front sight!

PS The 1895 Nagant revolver could mount a bayonet!
