A friend of mine bought a early 629. It turns out someone decided to to do a hammer and trigger job on it. Does Smith&Wesson still make Hammers. I called S&W 2 years ago about a model 24 I bought in 1983. I never fired it and it had a problem with the forcing cone and it was like talking to some one on a different planet. Couldn't get any help from them turned out to be the bullet dia sizer die. So I also see the S&W has gone to a new hammer system like Ruger. So I just want to know if they make parts on the so called older S&W if anybody knows of course. I just need a SS N frame 629 hammer.
Thanks
Yes, hammers can still be obtained for N frames...
You can contact Smith & Wesson and order the parts from them, or go to Numrich gun parts site, and you will find hammers there also....I just purchased several N frame hammers as well as K frame hammers from them....or you can check at Midway USA, they carry Smith parts as well.
What you need is a flash chromed forged hammer.
Like this:
Current production MIM hammers are designed for frame mounted firing pins and will not replace the traditional "hammer nose" types.
Numrich, as stated, is a source.
Magnum Mark on GB has them regularly.
The other popular online auction usually has a number of old N hammers, too.
A source I use for obsolete parts is Jack First in SD.
I guess our messages showed at the same time. I called S&W parts dept. and the phone rang for 15 minutes. Then decided to go to a different dept. I finally got thru and was able to talk to some one.. They told me they will never make Old hammers with firing pins on the hammer again. I told him one day he's gonna look out the window and there gonna be a thousand people with pitch forks out front. He laughed so hard. He gave me some other place to call Jack First. I said I called they didn't have any. He gave me guns & gun parts. He didn't have them either. But he did say that he gets em in every 6 weeks.
