Default Anyone like fiber optic sights?

I use this Mountain Gun in 45 Colt mainly for target practice. Therefore the higher sights do not present a problem. Although they might lend a some what ungainly look, they make this revolver a pleasure to shoot as I get older. Anyone else like fiber optics?

I like fiber optic fronts but prefer plain black for the rear myself.

Love the fiber optic front sight on my match handguns.

But NOT a fan of the fiber optic rear sights.

Thumbs up

I puy one on my 500 when I got it several years ago-- great for the piney woods-- However, I think they just look stupid on anything with less than a 4" barrel. Have never seen the rear ones in person--

I like them, but I want to try tritium (TFO) next time around.

No, despise them. They were standard on a 337Ti snub revolver and a 317 .22 revolver with 3" bbl. Could not obtain ANY type of sight picture with either gun and had them replaced with standard blade front sights. All is now right with the world.

^^^^^^^^
For me, they are slow. They also yield much larger groups than standard black sights.

I dislike dots and 'night sights' for the same reason.

Just my opinion, of course.

No. The glue holding the fiber optic in place gave away. Could not get a refund. Shooter choice will tear-up the adhesive.

Yes, I believe fiber optics have their place. I have one on my 329PD and I installed an EDM brand fiber optic front site on my 629-3 Classic DX 5 incher. I love them both. They are great for "close social work" and hunting, but do not allow for precise sight alignment when shooting bullseye. When shooting bullseye with the 629's, I use patridge front sights that allows me a better control of my "light bars".

I did not like the ones that came on my 60-15 (v-notch rear and rounded fiber optic on the front). The sight picture was very imprecise and I soon replaced them. Ruger's fiber optic sights (on their 101s) look MUCH better with their squared off front and rear sights. You have the advantage of the fiber optic and the precision of a normal 'squared' sight picture. I get a similar pleasing sight picture on the TFOs I have on my M&P Shield.

I love them on my Ruger Single-Ten. Easier for me to see indoors on black shoot-n-c targets.

I totally agree at 66+ (but not concerning the anti 2A group). We call fiber optic "old man sights" at the range and us old guys like 'em. Generally not so much so with the younger generation.

Since needing bifocals at about age 55 my shooting accuracy has gone down hill rapidly. A scope or red dot has solved the problem, but I don't want them on every gun.

I recently bought a new Ruger Single 10 with front and back fiber optics and surprisingly it has restored my accuracy. I love them now.

If you use the type that allow you to recess the fiber into the front sight blade you are still able to use the normal sight profile when you want more precision without the fiber creating a big blur on the front sight.

Gemini Customs "Little Wonder" RED Fiber Optic Front Sight on my 2.25 Inch SP101.

I have Fiber Optic Sights on almost all my handguns. The exceptions are my 442 Pro, and my Model 10 and 15 Snubs which do not have a pinned on front sight. AND My 310 Night Guard, and 315 Night Guard which have XS 24/7 Night Sights.

My SSR/Classic Model 64 has a Novak 1911 Fiber Optic sight dovetailed on.

Fiber Optics, and old guys friend.

Bob

Have them on the front of a Springfield XDS in 45 acp for CCW work. Helps to speed sight acquisition, but I would not put them on my S&Ws.

It depends on the application for me. I like a fiber optic front for fast targeting for speed matches. For better accuracy I prefer all black sights. I have also found fiber optics don't help much at indoor ranges.
