I have decent size collection of late 80's early 90's Smith and Weasons and a lot of them have the nice combat stocks on them. I was with my grandfather when he bought some of them, so I know that's how he got them from his dealer. The problem is that I cannot find info that a lot of the models should have shipped from the factory with them. I can't imagine that the dealer would have switched them. Were they a factory option? Anyone have any insight? Thanks -mike
SOMETIMES, THE COMBATS SEEM TO COME ON THE MOST UNLIKELY MODELS. FOR INSTANCE, I HAVE AN 8 3/8" MODEL 617, THAT HAS FACTORY COMBATS ON IT---WITH A TARGET TRIGGER AND A TARGET HAMMER......

They would have been a factory option, but my guess is they were/are so easily swapped that no one ordered them direct. Your grandfather would have been told "buy them from your dealer".
For all things S & W related, the latest version of the standard reference was just released:
They were standard issue on all of the 616-4s I saw (I guess there were exceptions, but all I saw.) I try to put them on most of my shootin' guns. You might say I like them!
