Help with 27-6 (prelock) value?
Hi, I have a couple revolvers that don't fit with the rest of my collection that I am considering selling to fund other purchases... The one that I am having trouble finding a value or even any listings for sale to compare on a 6" 27-6, new, never fired. (Of course except by s&w) Pre-lock of course.
The blue book has proven hit and miss on accuracy and doesn't cover the model 27 variations as good as I would like (such as more value for 27-2's)
Also, I am pretty sure I have the box but I am having trouble finding it, how much does that cost on the value? Thanks!

I think it would be hard to sell as "new, never fired" without the box. In general I think shooter grade plain jane pre-lock M27's are selling in the $650 to $850 range. NIB (with a box) maybe a one to two hundred more. It is not to say some of the "special" versions go for a lot more.

Good point, "new in box" kind of needs a box! I am hoping it is in the attic...

List on gb for a penny, but with an obscene reserve price, and see how high it goes.

The fair market on these varies widely, and a lot of it has to do with how you present it. If you put it on an online auction website with rubber grips and photos with bad lighting that make the bluing look questionable (ie. your photo), then you can probably get $750 for it. If you spend about $75-100 for a nice set of factory targets and take a halfway decent picture, you can probably get $900 for it. If you use some Flitz or other polish to bring out the true finish, make sure the grips are really nice, and take some fancier photos in a nice homemade lightbox, you could easily get $1200-1400 for it. I've bought some fantastic guns on GB because the seller listed it poorly, took bad photos, and sold it with worn out pachmayr rubber grips.

Thanks, good points, cell phone pics for selling are not good, and lighting is so critical on any gun but especially blue. As far as the grip, those are original (late production), Even with a s&w logo, Do you think wood grips would add value or detract as a change from "new"?
I am usually on the buying side, not the seller! Thanks for the help.

Get it as close to as it was the day it let the factory. If it shipped with Hogue rubber grips, put'em on, that's correct. Putting incorrect wood Target Stocks on it won't add value to the collectors, they'll know. They pay the big bucks for a "factory correct" package.
