PICS ADDED! 66-3 Snub for $599?
Greetings!
My LGS has a excellent condition (just a few light scuffs) 66-3 snub for $599. The factory woods have been replaced with Pachmayr Compacs (too bad, but better than stupid Hogue Monocraps). But the key thing is that lock-up, end-shake, and cylinder gap are perfect, along with the forcing cone. My Model 19 I got off GB was a basket case, with a gap you could sail a clipper ship through to go with the almost comical end shake value.
Buy it?
Hunter

I'd try to negotiate for a little less but would buy it if I didn't have one. Bought a -2 this year for $500 OTD with the correct grips which I thought was a good price. Would have paid more. Added some stag grips and it is now one of my favorites. Buy it, you'll like it.

Reality is that $600 is reality for a 66 snub in nice condition. Buy it. If you could get it for $500 you'd buy it so fast you'd break your arm getting your wallet out of your pocket. A year from now, $100 will not be missed. After all, a tank or two of gas and $100 cash is gone in a flash. Buy the pistol. Later if you want or need to, you can recoup your money. If you just buy gas, all you have is receipts.

Buy it. If you have been following the prices of 66 snubs, you will find any decent one for $600 or less is a good deal nowadays. The prices have gone through the roof, and I don't believe they are going to go down.

Here in OKC I've seen at least 2 snubbie M66's go for $625 & $650 on a local forum. Both private sales and didn't last long. I can't help but think that $599 is a great deal. If it's as clean as you indicate, it's priced right to buy. If you wait it will be gone. Offer less but don't leave it in the case when you leave your LGS.

Buy it before my buddy KLYDE from New England grabs a flight and scoops it up. He's brutal to me.
P.S. That's a sad tale, that beat-up 19 on GB.

Just about any amount you pay today for a nice, desirable pre-IL, pre-MIM S&W revolver will seem like a reasonable price in the very foreseeable future. I just paid what I feel is too much for a 1 of 500 686-3 National Match but a year or so from now, it will probably seem like a wise investment.
Here's a very applicable example. About four years ago, I paid $416 on GunBroker for a mint condition 2-1/2" 66-4 complete with box and the other goodies. Granted, that was a very good price back then but what do you think that gun would bring today? Well, you already know - at least $599!
Buy the gun already.

$600 for any non lock S&W is the going rate in my area. That snub would probably be priced at $799. I'd grab it.

Try to negotiate a few bucks off a very fair price and run the risk of losing a beautiful revolver to someone who isn't a cheapskate.
How much (or little) does someone expect to get a VG+ condition S&W these days? $100? $250? These threads that recommend haggling over pennies are a joke, and evidence that reality has not set in for some buyers.
Anyone who can find an identical 66 to the one described for < $500 should buy it and every other < $500 66 with it.

That variation is very hot in my part of the world right now.
Check on GB...I would get a bid in a blink.

If you are buying it for practical use, you are not going to find anything better for less. is a great deal in that respect.
If you are buying it as a speculative investment, save your money and buy a no dash or -1. The P&R models will always bring a premium when selling

Yup, going rate pretty much. I paid $600 for my minty condition 66-3 about a year ago which had no box, but had a couple of extra grips. That is one gun I will never sell, it might be just the ultimate in perfection for a snub revolver.
Any serious S&W fan that does not own either a M19 or M66 snub should be tarred and feathered.

All I can say is that last December I bought a 66-3 from a buddy and it is the nicest shooting gun I have. Conceals awesome and of course looks awesome. I put some Ahrends grips on it from Gripseller on ebay.

Well I paid more than that for my just purchased 66-1 2 ˝. I have been looking for that or mostly for a model 19 2 1/2 in my area for quite awhile and finely did a computer purchase from a few states away.
Gun was very good condition and of course being older did not have that lock device. It did come with a couple decent holsters, grips and quite possibly the best trigger (professionally done) I ever tried. (I have done my share of trigger jobs starting way before the spring kits came out and I was never as good as this one.)
It was get this one or continuing waiting. I tend to believe a bird in the hand is better than one in the bushes so I did it. Same sort of thing going to a restaurant. I would rather go to a “good “restaurant and pay more BUT get the meal I wanted.
The way things are going in the older non lock revolver department there will be less out there as discriminating people are hanging on to theirs and when you find them in the future they will cost much more than today.

I put on some period correct Magna grips to improve the visuals. The red ramp is going bye-bye, replaced either by a black insert or night sights.
What do you folks think?
Serial is an "ACC" series- Does anybody have a rough date?
Thanks!
PS- There is no weird line on the cylinder and frame as it seems in one of the pics- I think a hair got onto the gun.
