Default Model 929 Availability?

Does anyone know why there seems to be no Model 929’s available anywhere? Have they not been released yet? Or? Why can’t any be found for sale? Thanks for any info.

I don't know any details, how many are being produced, etc.

But I think its probably safe to say:

demand far exceeds supply

produced revolvers get allocated to distributors/dealers

dealers have a backlog of orders

as a dealer receives one or more revolvers, they quickly go out the door to shooters that ordered a long time ago

It would be interesting to know how many are being produced.

I know a lot of ICORE and USPSA shooters pre-ordered and are anxious to receive one (or two)!

I've heard they're ironing out some issues. I have a buddy that works at smith, Not in the performance center but in sales and I asked him where the heck the 929's are they and he mentioned issues are delaying the release. Issues with the compensators, but he didn't have many details as I think they don't broadcast. I'm itching for one too once they release.

The Performance Center chose to announce this gun at the Shot Show but wasn't ready to produce in quantity. The guns show up on Gun Broker occasionally and go for over $1500. The comment about the comp is silly because S&W has been making guns with that same comp for over 15 years and I own some. Last I heard, Jerry Miculek had one to shoot 8 rounds in under 1 second or something like that, but Rob Leathem who won the USPSA Revolver Nationals this year didn't.

S&WIoegan I was just stating what I had heard. I almost didn't post because I have no proof except hearsay. I must admit my friend is an honest and reliable source for most things so I took his word. He said that they had some comps blowing off the end of the barrel so they halted shipping. Again, I don't know first hand, but do you? I have a 627 which I would think has more pressure and it stays on just fine, so who knows for sure. I've scoured youtube looking for more videos etc and looking for answers but can't find either except Jerry's video. Happy shooting.

James,

Sorry I unintentionally offended you. The "silly" was aimed at scuttlebutt coming out the factory. I worked in a lot of factories in my youth and there's no better place for silly scuttlebutt. If the comp is being made of titanium it could be cracking.

Regards,

As expected, after hitting Davidsons last week (and immediately going out of stock) they have started to make their way into the marketplace. A couple have sold on GB for under $1,200 recently (I grabbed one of them) and expect that retailers will start filling orders and more will hit GB. If you want one, it's probably time to start looking.
