Can I get a holster that won't break the bank?
I am finally getting my conceal carry license. I have a SW 38 SPL, model 10-6 (?, I think) with a 4 inch bull barrel. How do I find out which holster will fit. It is a K frame. The S/N is D5559XX.
I have my old leather holster from my beat walking days, but I want something to go with my upcoming CCW.

I went with deSantis thumb break pancake for my 67. Nice high and tight holster. Something from Simply Rugged would probably be cheaper but stiffer. It might also be closed ended.

Contact Ray at Lobo Gun Leather. He's a forum member and does exceptional work for a very reasonable price. I have 3 of his pancake style holsters so far.

You're gonna pay $60 to $80 for a good Bianchi, Don Hume, De Santis, or Ross holster. All make good leather. Don't scrimp on a holster for EDC. Remember, the holster is what makes sure that your revolver is available for use when needed, and I don't like trusting a $15 holster to have my $500 life saving tool ready and available.
PS: I left out many, many, good holster makers. Don't limit yourself to what I listed, they just happen to be my favorites. Others will, and already have, point you to quality leather.

I am with Muss on this one.... Do not skimp on your carry holster. I went with Wright Leather Works and they make a holster for the S&W K frame 4". Their quality is as good as it gets. Classic Collection Leather Holsters | Wright Leather Works LLC
I also have one of their gun belts which is 1 1/2" x 1/4' thick. I wear it with jeans. I have a Wilderness Instructor belt for cargo shorts. Both work great.

I use the Andrews Custom Leather IWB. He also makes a good outside holster. Get one that will not allow the gun to fall out when turned upside down and covers the trigger guard. JMHO.

Don't forget a sturdy belt, too. A decent holster needs an equally decent belt to "work." Lenwood Leather is a good first place to look, and his belts start at $28.00 Don Hume belts are also great buys for the money, but they're a little more expensive.

Simply Rugged
Try Simply Rugged Holsters, they make an extensive line of "K" frame holsters with all the options and extras you could need, as simple or elaborate as you could want. They are very reasonable and usually state they are 3 weeks out for production although I usually receive mine in 10 days or less with reasonable shipping to boot.

Give Rodek Leather a try.
Rodek Leather Works, Inc. - Holsters
He uses very heavy leather. It retains its shape and form for many years. I have a Glock holster that he made for me in 1999, wore it everyday when I was in plain clothes and wore it a lot off duty. It's gotten hard, everyday use and it still looks like new.
Ed has been making holsters for well over 30 years that I've known him. He's a perfectionist and nothing leaves his shop unless it's 100% right.
You can't beat his price. A pancake is $38 with your choice of finish and color. I personally prefer his mahogany basketweave. Delivery time is about 1 week. I've never heard Ed taking more than 2 weeks even when he's doing something custom that he hasn't made before. It's hard to believe he turns out the high quality holster for such a low price but unlike the major holster makers Ed is doing it as a hobby, not to make a living.
Ed's webpage only shows his most commonly requested leather. If you want something different than what's shown just tell him what you're looking for.
On his webpage he shows a pancake for a S&W 63 that he made for me. I requested an exposed trigger. If you want a covered trigger be sure to mention it when ordering.
