Default Rear Sight Adjustment, Model 500

A bit of info please! My model 500 has the standard rear sight that's adjustable for height and windage. Exactly how much will the round be moved with each screw adjustment "click"??

1/8", 1/4" or just how much??

Many Thanks!!

There is no fixed amount because it is entirely dependent on the length (sight radius) of your barrel. A click will move POI twice as far for a 4" barrel as it will a gun with an 8" barrel.

From a rest fire 3 shots, crank in a full turn (6 clicks) and fire 3 more. Measure the distance between group centers and divide by 6. That's how far one click moves POI for your barrel length. I have never seen a chart that lists click values for various barrel lengths.

For some reason, I seem to remember that the old folded instruction and parts sheets that were packed with K38s and K22s back in the 60s and 70s gave an estimate of how much each click would move the group at 50 yards, but I agree generally that it differs with barrel length, bullet weight, etc., so it would have to be an estimate. I don't have an old instruction sheet in front of me as I type this to confirm. That said, the new manuals do not specify, so it is just a trial and error thing.

EDIT: My memory is apparently still somewhat intact. Old S&W instruction sheet attached. See paragraph 5 under "Sight Instructions."
