Default Dressing up my 60

Good morning all, I would like some ideas on what is out there to dress up my 60-14. I would like to get new grips and a front sight. What has worked best for you guys and gals? Thank you for all of the responses.

Personalization should be just that... personal. Grips that fit or sights that attract the eyes of one shooter are frequently unsuited to the next shooter. I submit that my advice is the result of wasting a lot of money trying to chase the "perfect gun" based on what everyone else liked/had.

What I would do in your situation is shoot the gun exactly as it is for at least a couple of hundred rounds and see what you like about it and what you would like to improve. Are the grips too small, or the wrong angle? Ask around to find which ones are better for your hand. I found that the original small-frame round butt grips from the factory work fine for what they were designed to do (provide conceal-ability while still being manageable.) What about the sights? I'm thinking of adding bright (red/orange) paint to the front sight of my Baby Chief, because I need a little more visibility. Your needs may be different.

As I stated, the foregoing free advice is based on my own experience carrying and shooting my small frame guns more than a little... not just something from a magazine advertisement. I hope it will be of help to you.

Regards,
Froggie

Until I foolishly traded it off I had a model 60-15. I tried probably a half dozen different grips on it and of all of them my personal favorites turned out to be a set of Pachmayr "compac' grips. I thought the factory banana grips looked great on the gun but the compacs did an amazing job of reducing the felt impact. they didn't reduce the recoil of course but the actual impact felt in my hands was reduced significantly and they gave an exceptionaly good hold. I won't say they "dressed it up" but the comfort level was outstanding. By the way, don't sell or trade it off if you can at all help it. One of the biggest firearms related mistakes I've ever made. great little guns. In the pic below the pistol has just returned from the range so it is pretty dirty. I shot the heck out of that thing.

It really comes down to what you want it for.

If it's for carry you might want a Tritium front sight and finger grooved wood grips.

If it's for HD or just fun shooting a fiber optic front sight and some Pachmayer Compac's might be what you want.

I have Compac's on my 642 that I carry and love them, but some people don't.

What work for me may not work for you.

What Shorty 45 said works for me.

I have Uncle Mike's which came with my Model 60-3 new from Smith. (Limited Production; 3" inch barrel)
I've tried others but these reduce the recoil to a comfortable level .....so that's my choice.
You're gonna love that little gun. It's now my EDC

I have to second the Pachy Compac grip. That grip is just about the only way to shoot magnums in a J frame and be able to write with a pen the next day.
