Pic request- any shortened Model 29 full under lug barrels out there
I like the look of a full under lug Model 29 barrel (hammer nose models) with a unfluted cylinder.
I would like a 4" but can't seem to find any info on a factory model. Not a V-comp….I want a blue steel model.
I would like a 5" but those come at a premium price.
what if I find a LONG barrel full under lug for cheaper and have it cut? still probably cheaper in price than the above.
any pics of trimmed Model 29s full under lug barrels?
what actual model/revision and where did the barrel lettering/stamping end up at?
thanks in advance

They did make a stainless 3" model a few years ago. Not real common and if in good shape the prices could be somewhat steep. I kick myself for passing on one for $600 about 5 years ago. It would probably go over $1000 now.

I have a 3 inch model 29. It has a matte finish and a full lugged barrel. And yes it came that way from the factory

Not a 29 but my 629-3 that came with a 6.5" barrel which I thought was too nose heavy for my olde hands and had the barrel cut to 4". I didn't bother with a front sight as I use an optic on this puppy. Those are X frame grips which really work with heavy loads.

With full lug barrels the N frame just looks right with 5" like the L frame looks great with a 4".
I never understood the desire for a 4" full lugged 629 but that is just me.

OK, dumb question: I found a Nickel 29 that I really love at a very good price. But, it is a 8" and I really don't want that long od a barrel. what would it cost to have it cut down to 6", a educated guess anyway?
Thanks,
Bob

SDM Fabricating has decent pricing (or at least for me) on cutting an barrel and putting a Weigand front sight but I contacted him last night and he is not taking any new jobs due to workload.
the other cost factor is refinish of a nickel barrel.
go to the website and they have a series of pic showing the cut back.

Have you contacted Hamilton Bowen, or maybe Jim Stroh? There are several good revolver smiths who should be able to handle this for you. If 4-inch looks a bit short how about 4-1/2"?

If you plan to have a well known gunsmith do any such work, be aware they all have backlogs of up to a year or more.
