Default Nickel or Highly Polished

Did any 686's come from the factory in nickel?
I have a Mod 686-3 4" barrel SN BHEXXXX, it looks to be
nickel. I can not find anything in the search engine or in the
Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson that mentions a nickel
686 being produced. Anyone got any info on this?

Thanks.

Does it have a yellowish tint to it? Stainless would be more blue.

The first 6 in the model number tells you it's stainless.

The finish is mirror like. The finish is the same over the complete revolver. Did the factory polish any of the 686's?

I think a high polish could be ordered. I have heard of them being a retirement gift in a case for LEO.

Have you Googled Nickel model 586? Oh yeah. Never say never with Smith.

Does the high polish give the 686 anymore value?

I would consider mine to be 99%.

Not interested in selling, but I would like to update my
insurance waiver.

Does anyone happen to own a 686 that was polished at the factory?
