Default 45 colt in the Governor - how strong?

45 colt ammo comes in a wide variety of power.Does anyone know if there are any limitations on what the Governor can handle?

yes I agree 45lc shoots best out of the Gov. I like American eagle , very accurate best with ammo at less than 1000 fps , shot some old cor bons at 1350 fps at 50 yrds couldn't hit a 4x8 sheet of ply wood. A.M. eagle at 20 yds about size of dollar bill

I've dumped over 400 rounds of LAX reman 250gr 45lc through mine. Performance was good, considering it's such a short barrel.

I also agree that the 45 LC shoots the best. The 45acp is ok also but sometimes dealing with the moon clips could be a pain. The 410 shot shell is very hard hitting. The only problem with the LC is the fact that it cost twice as much as 45acp. So at the range it's tuff to shoot a lot and costly, thus ,the acp is the best solution. I will still shoot a couple rounds of LC every time I go.
Has anyone found a good deal on LC ammo online in bulk? Do you trust buying ammo online? If so, is it difficult?

I don't own a Governer, so I'm making an assumption based on earlier posts in this thread: it sounds like you can run moon clipped 45 ACP in addition to 45 Colt and 410 shells.

If this is the case, you could run any 45 Colt up to about 22k PSI and still be safe. I'd stay away from anything marked/marketed as 'Ruger Only'.

This is correct that all three types of ammo can be used with the Governor. From what was said in another thread there are a few more types that can be used, same calibers but different loads.

Icelander,
You may have to E-mail S&W to get an answer to your question. I know some 45 Colt are loaded a good bit over the original load rated for Ruger Blackhawk , Redhawks etc. seems like I've seen three different levels of loads. The highest bordering on 44 magnum pressures.
I would stick to standard pressure loads unless S&W says otherwise.
