Default Left handed shooter J frame laser help

She's a left handed shooter and owns a Lady Smith model 60-14 J frame. Crimson Trace/others don't make left handed laser grips-is there a laser manufacture that caters to lefties? Do you lefties just learn to adjust to the right handed world? Revolt? Please reply.

I have a Laserlyte side mount laser on my 442 and the activation button's right at left hand thumb level.

I'm one of those sinister Lefties. I have played with the CrimsonTrace laser grips on the J frame with no problems. I think it is a non-issue, the laser lies along the right side of the frame. My two hand hold never interfered with the use of the laser. Go to a gun dealer that sells Crimson Trace lasers, they often have a display of Blue guns with their lasers installed to demonstrate how they work and point. I think you will find that it is not a problem.

The Crimson Trace on-button is in the middle of the front of the grip. I just grabbed mine with my left hand and everything came on normally. Neither thumb nor trigger finger interfere with the laser beam, so operationally there should be no difficulties for a leftie.

The only issue MIGHT be holster fit if she wants to carry on a belt. The laser housing sits just slightly "taller" than the cylinder, so it shouldn't add much to the total thickness although there might have to be a slightly different contour to the body-side of the holster.

I'm a lefty and I have no issues at all with the Crimson Trace grip on my 642. My revolver grip has always been "supporting thumb over the dominant thumb". On the 642, my dominant thumb lies on top of the laser housing and my support thumb is kinda vertical. It works great for me. I carry the 642 on my ankle, in my pocket and IWB and I've never had a problem with the laser or the button.

Crimson Trace grips on an auto, however, are a no go for me. I shoot "both thumbs forward", and my support thumb totally blocks the laser.

Hope this helps...

Having had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder, I have become a "temporary" lefty and agree with the above posts. The Crimson trace laser grip and the laserlyte work well.

Thanks everyone-we have an appointment with our CCW instructor this Saturday after his morning class, he has an Airweight with a Crimson Trace and is willing to let her try it out.
Question-what models of CT are you using? I find three on their website that are center button middle of the front of the grip.
LG-105

I'm still waiting for the green revolver laser that CT announced in 2012.

Latest Laser Sight News and Events | Crimson Trace Lasergrips

They now say that it will be available in 2015.

The downside is that the original green announcement was based on the larger 305, rather than one of their more pocket friendly models.

Just my personal opinion but I never felt a need for a Laser in a "belly gun" at the distances it might likely be used at. My suggestion would be to teach proper shooting without any Laser - but again, that's my personal opinion. I never like to rely on battery and switch operated accessories and for SD CCW guns, simpler is better in the long run.

I also do not think she should "adjust" her grip to the right handed Laser. Grip position is very important and something she should not have to think about in a time of crises and stress. Best to teach and rely on the basics and natural instincts - not mechanical or electronic devises.

I am old school and I might be in the minority here, but that's just my honest opinion.

My view on the laser grip is that it adds the ability to make an accurate shot without having to bring the gun anywhere near your line of sight. And it offers this capability in light conditions where you won't be able to see iron sights clearly even if you can get the gun up to eye level.

I've had one experience using my CT grip under a (very) little bit of pressure - a BUG gun match our club put on a few years ago. (IDPA style match but limited to 5-round stages, with no reloads on the clock. Intended for J frames, pocket 380s, etc. - the kind of smallish guns a lot of people carry as their daily protection.) Despite having practiced a fair bit with the laser grip on my 638, in the first couple of stages I reverted to my IDPA experience and looked for the iron sights, even though I was aware of the little red dot moving around out there. But by stages 5 and 6 I was focused on using the red dot, and found that I was noticeably faster getting on target - because I was aligned and shooting when the gun got to about belly/sternum level rather than waiting to bring it up to eye level. AND I found I was both more accurate and more confident of my accuracy with each shot. That experience turned the laser grip from a theoretical to a real world advantage in my own thinking.

As for which model of CT grip for a J frame - I started with the 405, wanting the most concealable size that still offered a bit of padding over the backstrap. But I found that it was no fun to practice with that grip on an Airweight - and not much better on the steel 49 that I also carry occasionally. (It was actually more comfortable to shoot the lightweight gun with Magnas and a BK grip adapter - the 405 may be padded but it's also quite narrow, so the recoil gets concentrated on a narrower piece of my ageing hand.) So when I found a deal on refurbished 305 grips I got one of those. It's more comfortable to practice with, so it's easier to make myself practice more. Now the 305 is enough bigger that the gun wouldn't carry very well in my front pants pockets, but I never carry that way anyway. My carry is almost always in an IWB holster, and very occasionally in a jacket pocket, and in those situations the 305 hides just as well as the 405.

Just traded my M&P 45 for a FNX. I'm pretty happy with the FNX. I like the double action/Single action, de cocker and boy does it feel nice in the hand.

I would call the CTs "ambidextrous" or at least as close as you're going to get. I'm a lefty and have a CT 305 on my 442. The grip is a bit larger (longer) and allows my pinky to be firmly on it. For me, I activate the laser with my middle finger and my thumb is typically below the laser housing (I sometimes rest it on top). It feels completely natural, is totally comfortable and makes for a very soft shooter. One handed or two handed. Even with hotter loads. It does become a tad harder to CC, but I routinely carry it IWB with no issues.

I did have to "cave" and learn the guitar and to golf righty! We get no respect!

We southpaw shooters can sometimes block the CT laser with our left thumb, so it helps to keep the thumb straight instead of bending it with the grip.

We met with our CCW instructor yesterday and she held the Airweight with Crimson Trace LG-305 grips. There was no issue of her thumbs blocking the laser and although this was just a static grip test without her firing it, the three of us think that we should move ahead and buy one for her LS60-14.
I have found this model for as low as $213.00 and as high as $289.00 so I guess the next step is to somehow check the dealer's credibility on the lower priced offerings.

I bought a factory refurbished LG-305 last year for <$200 from Dvor (the "outlet" part of Optics Planet.) I think they had 'em again at about that price within the last month or two, but they don't have any of that model listed at the moment. Dvor puts up new "listings" of all kinds of stuff almost every day, and the listings are usually good for a few days. I'm on email notification, just skim the newest listings as they come in, and almost always delete 'em. But every now and then there's a good one, like the refurbed 305, and the refurbed laser grip for a Glock 26 for ~$165, both of which I snatched up.

The refurbed units came in a plain brown box instead of a printed Crimson Trace box, but that's what I've come to expect for refurbs based on my experience buying refurbished printers from Epson over the years.

If you're not in a rush, you might be able to save some real coin . . .
