Default Which K frame is more valuable.

While visiting a LGS this afternoon I spied 2 used S&Ws in like new condition. They were a Model 13-3 and a 65 both sporting 3" barrels and both were priced at $450. I grabbed the Model 13 and a friend bought the Model 65. While doing the paperwork another gentleman asked which I thought was more valuable. I said the Model 13 down the road would probably be more collectable and therefore worth more. But the Model 65 because of it's stainless steel construction would be more practical for actual use.
What do you guys think would be more valuable? Both were in 99% condition with perfect timing but no boxes.

Well, you both got a deal. At the present time, there are more 3" model 65s in circulation from LE sales/trade-ins than 3" model 13s so I would agree the 13 is more valuable now. Enjoy!

I think they are worth about the same. One was the last revolver issued to the FBI and the other the last for the DEA. Both are about perfect for a carry 357 Magnum. I have one of each and usually carry the model 13 while the 65 remains in the safe, but that's just me.

IMO a P&R 65 (no dash) is worth more than the non P&R 13-3.

If the model 13 is blued you got a deal. If it's nickeled you got a steal! Valuewise I would agree they're about equal but the model 13 tends to be in more in demand than the stainless guns because they're not as common. I like them both but I'd definitely like to get a blued model to add to the herd. Besides, my 3" blue model 10 needs a companion.

mag318, I think you nailed it: 3" 13s are a little harder to find, blue is harder to maintain (so there's fewer still), and it has the "last FBI issue revolver" mystique -- all else equal, the 13 is the more valuable, and the 65 more practical.

Outstanding prices on both, given models and stated conditions. Well done.

A different point of view for me. I prefer the stainless 65 as it is easier to shine and keep clean. Most refer the blue 13 which makes finding the 65 to buy easier for me. Keep buying those m13s nd I will keep buying the 65s.

Thanks guys for the responses. For everyday use and range time I prefer stainless to blue. But for some reason that blued Model 13 just called out to me. I won't carry it but will definitely enjoy some range time with it. My only regret is that they didn't have the boxes.
On the plus side the 13 came with a S&W marked thumb break holster.

I own both models in 3 inch configuration. I love the blue model 13, but the 65 seems to see more range time. I bought the 65 first, but when I saw a 13 up for sale, I grabbed it. Can never have too many 3 inch K frames. LOL

My stainless guns all see more range time than the blued (especially if the blued one are in good shape). My 3" 65-3 is a favorite. Another is my 3" 686P. Something about those 3 inch barrels.

Aesthetically, I prefer blue.

Value-wise, I think the 13 is more valuable IF 90+ with original grips.

That's just my WAG. I have no idea what the market is.

If I were you I would have bought both before my friend noticed what was going on. Friends are friends, but $450 3" K frames?

I prefer nickel. But the k38 does get my attention. As the revolvers die off there all going to be worth more. I'm hooked on 4" barrels +++
