629PC snub or 329pd Alaskan backpacker
What say you? I have a 357 PC gun and the trigger is amazing. Really enjoy shooting it. The 329 4" I have is great too and the recoil does not really bother me. I would like a snub nose wheel gun in 44mag and have a chance to pick one of these. What is a good price to pay for one in great shape. Shot, but not beat.

What is the purpuse of the revolver?
For comfort/ease of carry the 329 might be the ticket. But, a 629 wont be as hard on you for more of an extended range session.
Snubbie 629 are definitely easier to find than their Scandium brothers. But, it sounds like you should add a 329 Night Guard to your list of possibles as well.

The purpose will most likely be to sit around in the safe and to take to the woods on occasion to shoot. maybe, just maybe put it in a holster now and then on hikes to the back country. but the weight difference would not bother me to much. I guess if the 329pd is harder to find i should maybe go that way. i would like a nightguard just the same, but dont have one locally that is an option.
I thought the PC might be good because of the trigger. but if the 329pd is more rare, then it might be a better long term buy.

Have you considered a 69 instead? I owned Mountain 629's and one 329 and my choice would be the 69.

The shorter barreled 329s are no longer in production. So, if you want a more "rare" revolver, that would be what I would go with.

Thanks 629shooter.
I am not considering A model 69. I would like 6 rounds. But it is a nice package if it works for you

For the purposes you listed, consider a Ruger Super RedHawk Alaskan in .44 Mag. It is a fantastic big caliber snub, and virtually indestructible.
The Alaskan is shown with a 624 snub for comparison.

A 3" 629 weighs about 42 oz. While it's not exactly fun to shoot, I can handle it well enough to achieve some level of proficiency. It's my first choice for carrying in the boondocks from Colorado to the Pacific Northwest. I am not tempted to shoot, let alone buy a 25 oz 329. After a dozen rounds at the range with a 329, I suspect you'd stop and think before shooting a charging bear. A mauling might be less painful

Looking at the various recent GB sales, the last 2 329 Alaskan Backpacker IV's sold for $800. I wouldn't pay more than that for one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I must be a glutton for punishment as I love to shoot my 329 4in. I think I will be happy enough with my 4in to pass on the Alaskan. Thanks all!
