Default News on Lock getting phased out

I read on Wikkipedia that S&W is phasing out locks on revolvers and they supposedly started doing this in 2009. I have been out of the loop for a while, I am a new Dad and obtained a new job, but please fill me in on what you know. If this is true, I am excited.

Most of the new Smiths I see in gun stores have the lock.

Some special runs do show up from time to time without them.

Case in point a year ago this one large LGS had Model 642s in stock some had the locks and some did not.

Guess which one I bought!

Ok, so if they are making some models without the lock, it stands to reason that they should offer either option, lock or no lock for any model. I wonder if a person called S&W and put in an order for a new model 69 without the lock, if they would do that for a fellow?

Some day those with locks will be "rare" and "collectible".
