Default New Kuracs and new 629-1

So I ordered these beautiful Kuracs in fiddleback walnut for my brother to put on his 6" nickel model 29. Then I found out he had sold it a long time ago and didn't have any other square butt N frame. I figured I'd keep them for myself, but after looking in the safe, I realized I have a disturbing lack of square butt N frames. After weighing my options, I decided the best thing to do would be to buy an older blue model 29 in 4" or 6".

After scouring a local gun show, I couldn't find a suitable model 29, but I came across this 629-1. This gun has very little evidence of being fired, and is in immaculate condition except for some light handling marks and one mysterious gouge on the left side above the trigger. No box or papers, but for $675 I thought I had better grab it.

Here's photos with the original grips and with the Kuracs.

Looks like a great buy to me. LGS has a 629-1 with black rubber grips for $999. I mean the black rubber grips are a lot nicer than your Kuracs and all but................

Hmmm

Similar to my 629-1 wearing Kuracs.

What do you think?

The stocks are Royal Walnut Kurac Smooth Targets, exhibition grade.

The revolver is a 4" 629-1, Circa 1984...
- Red Ramp
- White Outline
- Target Hammer
- Target Trigger

It is not pinned and recessed, but it may be my favorite shooter.

It was rough when I got it. It was scratched, and had Pachmyrs on it.

I lightly hand sanded the scratches with 400 grit and gun oil, and a lot of the scratches ended up looking a lot better.

I also polished it out after sanding several times using Mothers a mag Wheel polish.

Cleaning up it up, putting a set of Kuracs on it, really classy up, when was a real plain Jane revolver.

You'd almost think that S&W made revolvers, exclusively, to fit Kurac grips. Beautiful.

Tom_R, I love that combo, and I'm still going to look for a 4" 29.

I have a M629-1, 3". I wanted some combat stocks for it, but never could find a good set at a decent price. John, aka Kurac, had these. I only wish my camera could better portray their beauty. BTW, Jennifer is the brains of the operation. John is simply the labor force! lol

JC,

Couldn't agree more. Jennifer was most pleasant to work with. They make a wonderful product, and are a pleasure to work with.
