Default RANGE REPORT ADDED: My New 627PC 2.6" & Chiappa Rhino 4" Just Showed Up

Long story short. I bought a 627PC on GB 3.5 weeks ago. The guy just shipped it two days ago. Was about to involve the police. It just showed up today!

I traded my 686+ 3" to Kentucky Gun Co for 4" Chiappa Rhino 2 weeks ago. It was MIA with the USPS for over a week! No tracking scan for 6 days. It too just showed up today!

So I got both today! I just picked them up. Range report forth coming. Here are some pics in the mean time.

You will notice I removed the Eagle Secret Service Grips that came from the factory and replaced them with a set of Altamont's that I really like. The same ones that are on my 686PC 2.5", but for an N Frame of course.

This is my first 8 shot revolver other than a 22lr 317. The Simply Rugged Pancake holster I ordered for it should be here Monday. Won't be able to carry it until then. Got to love seeing 8 headstamps in the cylinder!

I ordered this holster off Ebay for the Rhino. Pretty happy with it. The Rhino weighs in at just under 30 ozs. It is super light on my waist. Barely notice it is there! The gun comes with a few moon clips as well. Right nice of Chippa to throw those in

The OCD in me doesn't like how the Rhino barrel doesn't *quite* match the frame, but it does look neat. Glad to hear your shipping issues worked out! Lots of folks having problems with UPS and FedEx shipping firearms right now for some reason. But your issues seem to be more with the sellers...

The trigger is actually really nice! Long, but very smooth and light. Let you know more once I shoot it tomorrow.

If you do a quick search, you will find forum member Erich's various comments on the Rhino. He is the resident expert on that particular revolver.

RANGE REPORT

Let me preface this by saying my time at the range was very limited today. My wife teaches yoga and we have a newborn, so Daddy had to babysit

Chiappa Rhino 4"
I am way beyond impressed with this gun! It exhibits virtually no recoil and shoots like a 22lr with 38spl. With 357s it is recoil is milder than a typical 38spl. The lack of recoil is due to the barrel being located at the 6 o'clock position.

It has a very wide trigger which I really like. The trigger pull is excellent! In Double Action, the pull is long but light and smooth. Single Action is excellent as well.

And man is this gun accurate!

I love this gun and will be carrying it for sure. I just found a smoking deal on GB for a 2". I just picked it up for $520. I highly recommending trying one of these out or buying one. Extremely impressed.

Here is my first group with the Rhino with 38spl 158gr Georgia Arms Reloads.

Here are some other groups with the Rhino:

S&W 627PC 2.6"

I was so impressed with the Rhino that I used most of my range time with it. I only put 3 cylinders through the 627PC.

This N Frame is a big gun and handles very differently than my 686PC 2.5" L Frame. This is my first N Frame. It is going to take me some time to get used to handling it.

The trigger and action is typical smith PC...Excellent!

I need to spend some more time with this gun and will write a detailed review once I do.

Back to babysitting. Here is my first group of the day with the 627:

Man, glad to hear the Rhino shoots well......but it will take me another 10 yrs or so of getting used to how it looks.....before I could own one! Then again, I used to think Glock pistols were hideous, and now they have grown on me!

I can relate to your "N frame felt big" comments, as I have found out (the hard/expensive way) that N frames are not for me!

The K/L frame is perfect for me........but I'll keep posted for your next range report on the new PC N frame.

Thanks for your pics and reports, and glad to hear that your deals finally came through!

I hear you on the looks of the Rhino. However, I actually think it looks very cool. It is a modern revolver. If you think about it, the basic design of the revolver hasn't changed in over a 100 years. It is nice to see a fresh take on an old design. I happen to think they did a tasteful job and some very interesting engineering.

Groo here
Chech the rhino manual.
The moonclips "might" be fore 9mm..
They were to bring in a 357/9mm model.

I have no idea what you are saying here??? Maybe someone can interpret?

The 3 moon clips that came with the gun work great. Thanks?

OP HERE
My Simply Rugged Pancake holster for my 627PC just showed up this AM. Took 3 weeks from the day I ordered it to have it on my waist.

I have the same holster for my L Frame Snubbys and love it. But OWB isn't my preferred way to carry. I like IWB considerably more. A gun just feels more secure IWB with the right holster in my opinion. When I carry OWB I definitely feel the weight of the gun hanging off my hip. Not so with a good IWB holster and carry belt.

I ordered a Tucker Gun Leather Texas Heritage IWB over the weekend. I should have it in a few weeks. Normally it takes 5 weeks, but I paid extra to expedite it. Hopefully it will come pretty quickly.

Here is my 686PC 2.5" in the Texas Heritage with a Tucker Basic Carry Belt. All my L Frame Snubby's ride in it. It is a dream to carry. I distributes the weight so well, I don't even know it is on my waist, even with a 40 oz gun! Looking forward to getting the one I ordered for my 627.

Texas Heritage with my 386 Night Guard:
