That is the choice I would have made as well. If I didn't already have a Python my choice might have been different but my Python itch has been scratched and it did feel that good.

I had that Python itch pretty bad, but happy with the decision I made. Maybe some day I'll bite the bullet and stump up the cash, but couldn't justify over this deal. Whoever said this was a disease wasn't joking.

Whoa! what a nice trio...you scored dude! You did right by passing on the Python for those three beauties. Love the tiger striped grips on that model 19. Congrats

Pythons are nice, but their current value is somewhat overrated.
You made a good choice. Great versatility in those three, and you will not feel bad about actually shoot them.

I'd have done the same thing. I've enjoyed shooting a Python, but only very carefully. I'd have no qualms about carrying and using any or all of those three. Very nice move!

Nice ! You made the right choice. I have a 6" Python that I bought used in the early 90's from a friend ($400.00)he used it to shoot silhouettes it has been tuned and a trigger job shoots like a dream but now I'm almost afraid to shoot it. It's nice to get out of the safe and look at . I would much rather have the three Smiths that you picked up ,shoot them and enjoy!

Only reason I'd buy a Python is to flip it for a profit and 2 grand is high enough that I might not make one. Three revolvers for one is the smart move.

I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that I won't be owning a Python anytime soon.
I would've made the same choice you did.

I love Colts and Smiths
With that inmind why pay the long dollar for one when you appreciate both
They are all nice but the 586 is the king to me
Smart move

I have a Python. Big, fat, hairy deal. I just don't get it. It's tacky, and my Model 13 or 28 will shoot circles around it. You did good.

You scored a hat trick! You could sell any one of those and be money ahead, and you would still have two more revolvers to enjoy! You couldn't do that with a Python. I think Python prices are at the top of the bubble. Be patient. One will turn up in a year or two when someone who was holding on to it waiting for the prices to peak suddenly needs to sell it for some quick cash.

Had it been a pristine new in box Python for that price, I would have gone with the Python. The condition was probably 90% with no box. These guns seem in great shape and lock up tight. There's some slight play in the 586, but nothing I'm worried about.
If someone offered an even trade for a new Python, I'd have some serious thinking to do.

I bought a brand new Python in 1972 for $198.00. Still have it. Still shoot it. Won't sell it. I certainly wouldn't buy one now. The prices are just plain stupid. With so many for sale, it's hard to believe the prices stay so high.

Beautiful revolvers! Back when stainless steel looked like stainless steel. I'll only buy the old Smith revolvers since the current "fashion" is to make the stainless look like aluminum.

I was setting out to buy a Ruger GP 100 in lieu of not being able to afford a Python, when I spotted a 686 Classic Hunter. Never looked back. Best gun I have ever owned. Yes, I love Pythons, and respect them immensely, but I would not part with my 686 for anything. Best trigger ever, just 'feels' right, and you honestly don't think you can miss when you shoot this gun.

The 586 and 19-4 will probably be safe queens. I have a 686 that I shoot, but the 629 will be fired now and again

Beautiful guns, and no doubt you made the right decision- 3 for the price of 1, you can't go wrong. But I tell you, my Python would be the last gun I would ever part with.

No, the 19 should not be a safe queen. You need to sell it to me.

Irn-Bru, go to a near by Catholic Church, take 6 votive candles[don't forget the donation] out to the range, light them up and shoot the flame out[NOT the candle]. If that doesn't work move closer and try it on the next 3. If that don't work go back to the church and pray for forgiveness. As penance, send me those guns and I'll try to bargain you a place in the Heavenly Rifle and Pistol club. Nick

I find the Python to be highly over-rated and vastly over-priced these days. You did far better with the S&Ws.

Good deal. Really either way. Pythons, and any other gun for that matter are worth whatever the market is willing to pay. Colt is not making any more.
I have several Smiths and one 6" Blue Python that I bought like new with the original worn box and papers for $2K last year. I love my Smiths, but I must admit, there is something special about the Colt laying on my desk. Agree, its mostly a desk top paper weight, as it will not see any real life duty. But I am proud to own it. Hey! Why not start saving for a Python to keep the Smiths company! Both are better investment than CDs these days for sure.

Great looking firearms Sir. You'll like that 586 even more if you would shoot it! I received my 586 no dash this week from a forum member here. I'll be getting it dirty the weekend.
