I just got an smith and Wesson 460 XVR with the 8 3/8" barrel.
I was wondering if anyone has a Bushnell Elite handgun scope on their 460? I hunt in a lot of rain/snow (great conditions for scope fogging). I chose the elite scope for my 44 mag because of the rainguard that this scope has on it and really like it! It works great! Back to my question... Will this scope hold up to the 460s recoil? Bushnells description on the scope is "Special, extra long 20" constant eye relief for large-caliber handguns, such as the .454 Casull, which is notorious for it's violent recoil". It says it will work for the 454. But nothing about the 460. Thanks for you input in advance!

Most 460 and 500 owners use Leupold handgun scopes.

A few have reported using the Bushnell with good result.

I personally use the 2.5x8 Leupold because they hold up better than all the others I have tried. Using Leupold my first scope failure occurred at roughly 6000 rds., the up/down turret blew out. It was returned and replaced by them in 3 weeks. The second was a failed glass element at 150 rounds and was like wise replaced in about 3 weeks. I have 5 of them mounted on X-frame revolvers with many thousands of rounds shoot.

The Nikon I tried only made it 125 rounds the first time and less than 100 the second.

The Bushnell I tried lasted two cylinders worth.

My customer service from Nikon and Bushnell was also good. Those scopes found homes on lighter shooting guns.

As far as scopes go you generally get what you pay for has been my observation. For me now it's buy once cry once.

I have yet to have any red dots last more than 4 cylinders,
guess it time to try the ones that cost more than $300.

Good luck

An Aimpoint red dot sight will take the recoil based on my own experience with T/C hogs. If you don't need the magnification, I prefer the red dot sight vs a scope for hunting. Same experience ruugyh had with Nikon and Bushnell. Add Simmons to the list of scopes that I broke.
