Smile I couldn't say no.....

Back in July, I picked up my M&P340. I had been looking at them for a few years. But was "afraid" because of the horror stories that I have heard about the recoil, crimp jump, and accuracy issues associated with the scandium J-frames. But, then I came across a new "no lock" at a decent price so, I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did, it shoots very well. The wider U-notch paired with the XS front sight make for some fast and accurate shooting. Shooting 125 gr. Magnums isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be either. I put about 500 rounds downrange with the little M&P340 before 2014 ended. I still smile when I pick it up.

Fast forward to last month, I was browsing at my favorite fun shop, and something caught my eye. A new "no lock" 340PD. So, using the two is better than one logic, it came home too. Due to the weather, and other factors I haven't shot the PD as much. But, I have shot it enough to know that if you do your part, so will it.

I have not experienced any issues so far with either revolver. But I will say, that the trigger is a little better on the PD compared to the M&P.

No matter what I did, I could not get any photo to turn out right. But, there is at least evidence that they both exist.

Default I wouldn't expect...

I wouldn't expect a light, powerful gun to be a 'fun gun' but it seems like you've got a real winner there.

My brother refers to these as my "Noisy crickets." He tried the M&P and didn't really care to shoot too many magnums, and so far hasn't fired the PD.So no, these little buggers are not for everybody. But, I don't really feel a difference in recoil compared to the 642/442 if, I'm shooting 38 Special/+P. Ironically, my 340PD hasn't seen any 38 special yet.But I did put some standard pressure 38 SPL. as well as some +P downrange with the M&P when I first got it.

Congrats on a nice pair of J's.
Other than the trigger, have you noticed any preferences of one over the other?

Yeah, if I were to recommend one, it would be the M&P340. The wider U-notch in the rear, and the XS sight up front offer an advantage over other Js in terms of "shoot-ability."

But, you can actually notice the difference in weight with the titanium cylinder(even though it is only 1.9 oz. difference) and, the red ramp on the 340PD is still easier to pick up than say the all black front blade of a 442.

Even though I didn't "need" either of them, I'm glad I have them. I guess I just have a thing for J-Frames. There is still a few more that I wouldn't mind having in my collection.
