Default "Etched" 629-4 Factory??

Today I picked up an etched/engraved 629-4. It has a 4" barrel, TT, TH, WO, RR. The etching is on the barrel, cylinder, and frame. The right side has an etching of a Grizzly head. Also equipped with a nice set of stag grips. My question to the experts...... is it factory, distributor special, or owner commissioned? Any help you can give me would be appreciated! SN is CAA34xx.

Some pics..

Dave

I believe that is Factory Laser Engraving. S&W used to have a booklet in the box that advertised that.

If you holster and use it much it will wear off at the contact points.

Well, that could be a problem, because I plan on using it and it will get holstered. Then again, I like carrying so many other handguns that it won't get used a whole lot.

Does the factory laser engraving ad any value to this revolver?

Thanks, Dave

That was optional factory "Laser-Smith" work. You could send your gun back and have work like this done for about $65 as I recall. To call it "engraving" is really too generous.

Not only will this wear off rather quickly, if you ever try to polish the gun it will disappear faster than you would ever have imagined!

To my original point I called it etching. I have engraved handguns and this doesn't qualify IMO. Nonetheless, it is a nice firearm and I will enjoy it once I get another set of grips......

Thanks for the information! Dave

The 629-4 4" is one of my favorites. Enjoy!

After further review, I don't care much for the etching. Somehow cheapens the gun. As I said, that won't affect it's mission as a great woods carry handgun.
