Nicer action - Old target trigger/hammer or new PC action?
For an N frame double action, which is nicer? (I know subjective)...
I have zero access to the newer PC guns so I have no idea how nice they are, or are not.
But I do have an mid 90's model 27 that has the hardened target trigger and hammer, and that gun completely stock has the best trigger feel of any pistol I have ever fired.
Now I ask this question because I have been lurking over some of the older 1989ish 629s with the 3" barrel. Street price for a shooter looks to be the same price as the new 629 PC. So I am wondering which would have the better feel for the money.
Yes I know the 1989 would have no-IL or MIM, but I sold too much stuff and need to put some back into the toy fund... this will be a range toy not a daily shooter.

The older guns may feel better just by virtue of their use and age. I am not a fan of the wide, ribbed target trigger. That was really meant for single action target work. For double action, a narrower, smooth trigger is my preference - specifically, what was called the "Combat" trigger.
I don't give much credence to some people's belief that the PC guns have better triggers than regular production guns. Also, you should realize that using MIM triggers actually gives better consistency gun to gun than the old forged parts. MIM parts are more dimensionally stable and are molded with smoother surfaces from the get-go.
Old, new, production, PC - any trigger is just a starting point until you get it to what you prefer.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

The smoothest, lightest action on any N Frame I've ever seen is my Papaw's early 30's HD Outdoorsman. It beats any trigger/action jobs I've ever seen. The PC's I've shot are about as smooth as a worked over -2's.

With about 1/2 hour of attention my PC triggers are as good as any.

I have 4 1970s N frames with 3Ts, 4 1990s N frame (only 2 with 3 Ts), and 1 Current production PC 627 UDR. As much as I hate to admit it, the PC 627 has the best trigger by far. I have 3 other MIM guns that are not PC and they all have excellent, more consistant, smooth triggers.
I love my older stuff and they would be the last I would part with, but it is what it is.

I'll second this. Since I shoot DA all the time, I prefer a smooth trigger face. I've even had serrated triggers ground smooth on custom guns.
