No such thing as a bad 460.

Any Barnes 200 to 325 or Hornady 240 or 300 XTP MAG will easily harvest black bear. I have not taken a moose but have taken several bison and would use the 275, 300, or 325 bullets with out hesitation. There are others that would also be fine but these are typically available.

You will find reloading will allow you to shot more and build a round for any purpose you might encounter.

Have fun with your new revolver and Good luck.

Hey love those grips!!!!How much for that and were did you locate them?I'm wondering if over did on caliber but its a no doubt a one shot stop gun ! Lol

Grips are Altamont.. Think I paid right around $70 shipped as you see them here....

Here is their page: Altamont Company - Smith & Wesson

If you decide to get a grips for your 460, you will need K/L frame size, round butt profile. (The X-frames have the same size and profile grips frame as K and L frames)

Some folks think I am a little loose upstairs running hardwood on my 460. Maybe I'm a little more recoil tolerant than some.. But I think it is more about form, technique, and not being scared of the weapon. Don't try to over control it, but don't let it do whatever it wants either..if that makes any sense... It's a balance of letting it roll and controlling it.

Yes, Yes sir you are!

No offense, buuuuuut shouldn't you have asked this question before buying the gun? :p

We'll I guess one of two things are going to happen when he gets his 460 and puts woods grips on it is.
1. Wow that thing is awesome to shoot and before he knows it he will have a few hundred rounds threw it.
2. Wow that thing just jack up my wrist !!

On a serious note

always use good hearing protection

wood grips are not an issue if they fit your hands

wrist problems are result of poor grip mechanics not strength
learn the proper grip for double action revolvers

I have taught a number of women to shoot the 460S&W without any of the youtube drama

Have fun and good luck

Could of asked before I bought it I guess but didn't think to ask what people thought until after I ordered it! I would of bought it anyway! Was just curious what people thought who had it.why can't ask a question on here ?if you dont like the question than dont waste your time to put you 2 negative ¢'s in and keep moving on I guess thats my thoughts!

That's the bad thing about when you ask a question on a forum you may get the answer that you want or you get somebody's 2 cents that you don't want. Just got to roll with it I guess. We all would love to see some pictures of your new hand cannon when you get and how it dose at the range and what grips you like.

No offense, buuuuuut shouldn't you have asked this question before buying the gun? MrJT

His question was to owners about their experience not if he should get one.

Do you own one? No offense

OP: I would add that I recommend retaining the stock recoil absorbing Hogue grips on your 460 for those first full house rounds you try.

I am not implying anything here... Just looking to help you to be prepared in every way possible in hopes that you don't have a bad first experience with it.

This is no 44mag.. The 460 and 500 are in a category all their own and they rightfully demand a good measure of respect. Every shooter is different. What works for me might be painful to the next person.

If firing some hot-rod 460 loads with the Hogue grip is no issue for you, then find some hardwood grips you like and give em a try.

And Ruggyh is one of, if not THE most experienced 460 owner/shooter here. I value his advice, and recommend anyone else do the same. Just search his threads if you have more 460 questions.. Chances are, he's been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, and posted here about it for all of our benefit.
