I've been offered this S&W 629 Classic Hunter. The guy is wanting $720 shipped. What are they going for these days? It includes the box and papers. Thanks for any help I can get.

Look on G.B. for what like guns ACTUALLY SOLD FOR! You will see unrealistic asking (starting) prices which mean nothing. This is just a tool that I use for reference. Bob

I only paid $475 for mine, but it didnt come with a box.

Ohh and that was 9 years ago.

$720 is a great deal compared to what some have sold for on GB lately. Just this week, one that was unfired with box sold for over $1400. I think that is an exception though. Another with a box sold for $1095. One without box sold for $885 and finally another for $1095.

So if you want it, I would jump on it at $720.

I like the un-fluted cylinder. I think that the price sounds good. Is everything mechanically sound? Bob

I wouldn't hesitate another minute if I were you! I have one identical to the one you are looking at and wouldn't even think of letting it go for under a grand! It's the most accurate revolver I have and I don't see it losing any value in the future. Go for it!

I fail to see how you can possibly go wrong! All pre-IL, pre-MIM S&Ws are escalating in price nowadays and with each passing year, there are fewer and fewer left that are BOTH nice and for sale. Now, factor in that something on the order of 5,000 of those were made and you have a gun that will appreciate even more.

I wouldn't quibble over $25 to $40 shipping. Buy it or someone else certainly will.

How do you do that? I can't see the option.

You must be a registered member. If you are not its free to do so. Once registered, on the home page next to the search bar there is a button that says "advanced", click it. The next page with give you more search options including a tab that says "completed items" click on that tab then enter your search criteria. It will show you completed auctions that match your search. Be aware that all ended auctions show, not just items that have sold. When your results show, it will also show you how many bids were placed on that item. To see if an item actually met the reserve and sold, you must open that particular item. If it sold, at the top it will say "this item has been sold" in a green box. Those are the ones you need to use as comparisons. For this particular item, the search with the best results was "629 unfluted".: good luck.

If you want it grab it. Here in Texas from a low of 750 to a high of 1100 but that one has a scope. A couple of others for 820 and 850. But that is all that is listed on our local gun site. Did see one for 650 but that was gone in a minute. Any Smith sells for a minimum of 500 and only goes up from there based on condition and model. I see some J frames for 400 but nothing less than that and certainly nothing like that for the heavy frames.

This is here just to tempt you. I had to get rid of the goodyears and put some wood on mine.

That's exactly what I did to mine shortly after I got it,,,,same furniture, just a bit lighter in color. I did keep the Hogue's, and I just recently got a set of aftermarket Combats for it, but I need to modify them a bit to get them to fit perfect.
Yours looks great!

Ok guys, I jumped on it. I'm mailing the money order off at lunch. I will make sure to post pictures when I get it. Hopefully I will like it as good as my 629-1 3 incher. Lol

You will love it. They are accurate as can be. I love everything about mine, so when I had the chance to buy one with a 3" barrel and unfluted cylinder, I jumped on it. Definitely post pictures when you get it!

SMART MOVE Punisher. YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE. I'M SURE THAT YOU WILL LOVE IT. A 3" AND A CLASSIC HUNTER MAKE A GREAT COMBO. HERE'S MINE. I USED TO CARRY THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME, ON OCCASION, IN MY YOUNGER DAYS……..

Grab it!

They're great revolvers and accurate too.

Not to be a wet rag, but IIRC, this is a Classic Hunter.

I bought it when they were new, had it hard chromed.

I believe it was Shooting Times that had a contest to name it and Classic Hunter was the winning contribution.

Yours might be a Classic, just not a Classic Hunter.
