Welcome to the Forum
I doubt that was built as a duty firearm. I also doubt that you will ever learn how many of a particular configuration any custom gunsmith produced.
Like 9mmsubgun-m11 says . . . a bit weird, but I like it

Welcome Ernie! I would say that it was built for revolver competition class as opposed to being a carry or a bullseye pistol. It is a sharp looking pistol, Congrats!

WELCOME TO THE FORUM, ERNIE. FEW, IF ANY, DEPARTMENTS WOULD ALLOW A LEO TO CARRY A MODIFIED REVOLVER AS A DUTY SIDEARM. THAT REVOLVER APPEARS TO BE SLICKED UP FOR A PARTICULAR CLASS OF COMPETITION--AND I DOUBT THAT ITS BULLSEYE. A CALL TO ANDY CANNON WITH THE SERIAL NUMBER MAY AT LEAST TELL YOU FOR WHAT PURPOSE IT WAS BUILT, AND PERHAPS, EVEN THE SPECS….

Welcome to the Forum!
That is quite a nice looking 686. Like others have said it's probably a "gaming" gun, sure is neat though.

That's a sweet piece! I've got several Cannon customs in my collection and they are sweet. The man was an artist.

My Andy Cannon Model 686
I picked this up 12 years ago. It was made in 1989, and made for and belonged to actor Charlie Sheen. Apparently the actor had to get rid of all his firearms due to some legal problems and I was lucky enough to get this one from his collection.

Wasn't this gun a collaboration between Massad Ayoob and Andy Cannon? I vaguely remember a gun rag article about this gun and thought that was the genesis of it.
Regardless, I'd wager it's a heck of a shooter, deserves to be shot and enjoyed. Nicely done.

I had Cannon do my 686 "Street L" mods with some changes. I didn't have the round-butt conversion nor did I have him bob the hammer although it was made double-action only. It was a collaboration between him and Ayoob and it was designed as a carry gun, hence the name "Street L". It was made double-action only at Ayoob's suggestion as a hedge against liability to remove any possibility of an AD in single action. I don't remember why I didn't go with the round-butt but I didn't have him bob the hammer because I used it as my duty gun back in the day we carried revolvers and I was concerned the thumb-break retention might have been compromised by removing the hammer spur.
I actually had it on the range this very day. It's a great shooting gun. I'm thinking of doing our local steel challenge match with it in a couple of weeks, just for grins.

Andy Cannon built some very fine pin guns back in the day.Used they would often fetch 50% more then a new models Price.
